I enjoyed this build for the opportunities it provided me. Although the finished product doesn't necessarily show it, there are many details that went into the model and diorama. Fine Molds makes many model kits in hard to find subjects, albeit it all Japanese. Though labor intensive, the Kamizukuri paper products gave a fine result. The one area in which I am disappointed is the opening I created to show the tracks and road wheels. It just didn't give the effect I wanted.
I had the rare opportunity to spend two weeks on Iwo Jima in 2003 while serving in the USN. It was one of the highlights of my career.

This photograph was the basis for the diorama.
