No, nothing to do with Star Trek, but with space to display models. I seem to be getting to that point where every space on my shelves is filling up rapidly. Even after selling a couple of large kits last weekend, and having just put up 4 more shelves, I find myself wondering where the next build is going to go? Admittedly, I have two smaller shelves available in the living room, along with 1 (maybe 2) shelves in my glass cabinet, but I don't want to use them yet, until the kitchen is finally finished, and the rooms are dust-free. I suppose it comes to us all. What to do? I have already relegated some older kits to the attic, and will probably do the same again soon. I may try to flog some off cheap at cockpitfest too. But, other than that, I really don't know where to go after that.... What do you all do with your builds? |

I binned a lot of older, 1/72 aircraft, kits. They were the ones I built about 12 years ago, when I got back into the hobby. I've also sold a few 1/35 armour kits. Unfortunately, the cull is going to have to start again, as space becomes a premium, once more! |

I look at them and if not up to scratch I just bin them after removing usable stuff like weapons, I have sold 2 or 5 at shows, not the norm, but it saved me carrying them home again. |

I have a lot of kits that are no longer up to current standards. The trouble is, they may be subjects I want, or just like, or are no longer available. Either way, I don't want to get rid, but I don't really want to display them in their current state. If I had the time, I'd strip the paint and redo them, but I have too many unbuilt kits to do that too... |

I considered this as an option as well, but as you say, I have enough unbuilt kits to be getting on with! |

go and buy some plastic storage boxes (if you have a B&M they do under the bed sized ones for 8 quid).....put said kits in there with the lid on to keep the dust out..........put under bed or in loft til you decide what to do with them i currently have nowhere to display.....i want some wall display cases.......crappy old stuff is in the loft.....good stuff made recently is under the spare bed.....so i can get to it if i go to a show and want something to display |

I have some stored in the attic too. Might have to get some more and pack them up. |

Just bin them, you know it makes sense and leaves room for new ones. Too much nostalgia causes headaches. |

cant seem to throw aawy a kit the cant cost £40 and up by the time you add and resin, decals ect, especially if youve done a good job id rather give them away or sell them at shows like i have been |

I understand what you mean Mark but sometimes one has to be ruthless, when we had our loft re-insulated I had 4 boxes of made up models up there to move so slung them in the car and took them to the dump without opening them. Nostalgia is fine but can be a pain in the a**e sometimes. I'm running out of display space now so will soon have to think about what is to go. My pleasure is in the build regardless of what the cost was but once on the shelf they just become dust collectors, bits break off and get lost and I lose interest. I have my favourites like the MiG-31, J-15 and the pixellated camo aircraft but eventually they will go along with my Israeli collection. |
