Nice to know that my little lady isn't the only one to ban plastic fiddling on THE day.

With this years Christmas now over I can now return to the plastic, or in this case resin....

Which brings me nicely onto todays lesson, the two faces of resin, part 1.

On the one hand, resin offers you a nice choice to add some detail or use alternative parts. For instance this kit, although quite old, offers you resin wheels to use instead of the kit ones.

As you can see it`s a bit of a no brainer. The amount of flash on those kit wheels can really put you off and drain your modelling mojo.

The resin cockpit was easy enough to put together and I added a blob of Blu Tac to the seat to `act` as a cushion.

Now the `dark side.

Don`t get me wrong, I like Czech kits, MPM being possibly my fav.

However, these manufacturers really let themselves down IMPO by leaving the mould `thingy-ma-bobs` in place which then need to be filed down. Not so much a problem with the inside of the fuselage, but the tail section can be ruined if your not careful.

And then to cap it all off, after you have followed the instructions, trebble checked to make sure it has all been stuck in the right place, you go and dry fit it and you end up with this.....

The pit don`t fit!

Oh well..., out with the file again tonight.

But after another slice of crimbo cake me thinks..........

So the good news is, after about 2 hours of phaffing around, the cockpit section is sealed up and just needs a good tidy.

Posted Image

The bad news is, as you can see from both pictures, the overall fit is terrible with lots of things to tidy up.

Although going back to good news again, it`s all great practice for the F.8 and T.7 CA Meatbox`s in the stash. :bang:

That's what modelling is all about, it would be extremely boring if everything fell into place but nowt wrong with your build so far so stick with it.

Well done mate for overcoming these issues. When I see
guys like yourself just getting on with it, it inspires me to try to do so
the next time I have an 'awkward' kit.

So with all the gaps sorted out, paint applied, the decals are next.

You sorted out those gaps mate, nice job.

What paint did you use and was it airbrushed? Looking at the finish I would say it was. :cool
