Madmonk has kindly sent me this kit to review, and there's really only 1 way to review it - Build it!! This lighting kits are avaliable HERE or PM Madmonk Anyway, what do you get? Control Board White SMD LED for nose light White LED with fibre guides for wing tip lights 2 red LEDS with fibre guides for strobes Instruction ![]() ![]() ![]() This kit allows the builder to choose where and how to power it, for me there are options of running the electrics down the legs but for this build ill be going wheels up to show the strobes off better, so ill use a 1/24 Airfix stand, and will route the power through that enough talking, on with the show!!

ok, im not going to spent time Wiping the whole build just the lighting process heres the tub nearly ready to install ![]() when you look to putting the light for the nose in there isnt room under the tub for the wires ![]() so ive taken a small notch out of the tub and ill run the wires through there, this wont be seen anyway as the seat would block the view

Pete having had a dry fit, i cant envisage any problems at all my legless pilot arrived!! (this is a academy f18 defector, thanks to jacksdad, i had to cut his legs off to get him in) ![]() as per the instructions the chip is mounted on the back of the bulkhead piece 13 ![]() wiring in place ![]() as im not using the landing gear i didnt install the frame, in stead i cu out a notch in piece 23 to allow the led to go through and painted the area silver

ok to fit the bottom strobe, you need to cut a slit in the airbreak well part no 34, if you decide to build with the airbreak down you wouldnt see it as it is so far down and to be honest there piping there in the real thing![]() real thing

next up fitting the wings, i need to think about this as the wings are ment to be made before mating with the body, but i need to install the fibre optics that are attached to the circuit in the body |

Ok first job was to cut a hole for the stand and to pass the wires through![]() Then I built the internal frames for the landing gear, although im not using them it will give support to the wing ![]() at this point i threaded the wire through the wing and taped the fiber optics in place, and glued the wing top on ![]() and a little test to check its all working (click on the image below to see a short video) ![]() Edited by Mark M, Jan 6 2014, 02:24 PM.

Ok the next job was to add the wing tip lights, now i have to say i was worried about this, bout i shoulnt have been first up cut off the locating black and then drill a .75mm hole into the 3mm into the clear part, now as ive broke my .75mm drill i used a 1mm. the clear plastic actually helps here as you can angle the hole to the right location as you go ![]() next the instructions call for trimming the fiber back, but ive found there is enough give in it so you can glue the fibers in and then attach them later without shortening them (but some people may need to slightly shorten them) ![]() the fibers were glued in place with a small amount of pva |
