The Matchbox factory was at Rochford so local to me and one chap who worked there was a club member and would bring new stuff to us to test build for him, and yes the later models were superb and far better in quality to Airfix at the time. They also had subjects that others hadn't thought of.

I used to really like the old Matchbox kits, although the coloured plastic used to take some painting.

have you bought any revell kits recently? :whistle :rolf
Well, I know which Revell kits not to buy

And I didn't want to talk bad about Matchbox. Indeed, with the coloured plastic, they did manage to get me into the hobby in the first place..

Quite a few of their kits were rather good actually. Their 1/76 armour was good, their 1/32 cars were good, and so were their 1/12 motorbikes. (Though I'm not quite sure if the cars and bikes were their own tools.) Some later models were, I daresay, cutting edge at the time, like their 1/32 Puma or the 1/72 Flower Class Corvette.

But when I read that Mac got their Ju 188, I couldn't help but wonder. I built that kit a few (read: many) years ago, and I was somewhat underwhelmed. Could be due to my mediocre skills however :whistle It's still around, but trust me, you don't want to see it...

Not built it myself, but I've heard it leaves much to be desired in the fit department.

Hey Derek, please post some pics of the contents of the MiG as I'm curious what the 27 kit looks like. Thanks much. Cheers!
