This is to be a review build of the latest 109 to be released by Revell. It will be a warts and all review with an honest opinion as to how it is to build.

Here is the box top with its very nice artwork.

Like many other modellers I find Revells end opening boxes a bit of a pain. My solution is to tape round the box and cut the back to form a lid.

My only deviation will be to use RB Production seat belts and EagleCal decals for white 44 from NJG11 as I want to see how good a pallette this kit is for a single coloured aircraft as making a good job of a plain plane can be a pain. :)

Here are a couple of pictures of white 43 to show an example of what I plan.

The set I'll be using.

Also, this will be a back to basics build using a brush as much as possible to show whats possible without the need for an airbrush.

Just a wee update today.

Construction started. I decided to glue the fin tops and the upper wing parts together to help get a better seam. I have also glued the wheel well wallls in place as well as the radiator faces.

I have also attached the various parts to the cockpit floor and sides as well as removal of the moulded on seat belts on the back bulkhead.

An initail dry run of these parts along with the lower wing pieces show that fit is excellent and I cannot see any problems during the construction.

Although the parts are well moulded with wonderful detail and texture I am a little surprised that the pedals needed quite a bit of clean up. Not sure what happened there.

Next step will be painting the cockpit RLM02, picking out all the other cockpit colours before closing up the fuselage.

I had a fair old gap at the wing root/fus join on the G6, will be interesting to see if this one is any better.

I wouldn't paint it RLM02 if I were you, all late war Luftwaffe BF-109's cockpits were RLM66 black gray. HTH's

Just a quickie as I haven't posted for a wee while.

Here are Radu's lovely seat belts that I will be making up tomorrow.
Posted Image

Once done I can then get the cockpit closed up and the fuselage halves together.

Put the flaps e.t.c. onto the wings. A dry fit of the wings to fuselage show a really good join.

I'll post some pictures of the cockpit tomorrow when they look a bit more interesting than plain grey(66).

The voices told me to do it!
It's a good looking kit. I might have to get one, and see if I can do a decent job on it!

Bit more progress today.

Here are the lap belts in place. A wee bit fiddly but better than the moulded on ones.
Posted Image

The cockpit tub ready for installation.
Posted Image

Fuselage halves together. Still no fit problems.
Posted Image

Here is one of the wings attached. The only thing I needed to alter for a good fit was to slightly bend the end of the support beam to better fit into the slot in the wheel well wall.
Posted Image

Wing on, showing the good join. Although this view does show the sink mark on the wing bulge. So far that looks to be the only area I will need any filler.
Posted Image

Underside view. One seam to sort.
Posted Image

So, no sign of a bad fit at the wing/fuselage join. In fact it is quite a positive fit with the wing spar helping with dihedral.

Happy days so far. :)
