Builder of aircraft, any scale from 1:1 to 1:144!
|
This sorry looking creature was acquired at Newark at the weekend. It was in need of a rebuild so the fact that it's journey home was less than kind to it doesn't really bother me. It'll hopefully be resurrected as a Vietnam era Counter Invader, using whatever bits and pieces and decals I have lying around...

Got props, gear etc. It was just really badly built and painted, and due to really old glue fragile. I'll use the original props even though they aren't right for a 'Nam Invader. |

If all goes well it should come out ok. If not, I've won some spares and its only cost a couple of quid. Win-win... |

Apologies for no photos, but quick update seeing as I've got a bit done on this. I've been concentrating on the fuselage, got it dismantled, painted the cockpits, and reassembled. The turret apertures have been sealed and filled as well. I'm starting to think it may make the shelf rather than the spares pile after all... |

Change of plan... I've decided against making it into a Counter Invader now. I've found a slightly different subject to finish the rebuild as, which requires no further butchery of the model. Whereas to go A26K would need new props, modified tail, and a few other things, and frankly if I want one of them I may as well just go buy the Italeri kit! Should get a couple of hours work in on it this aft anyway :) |

Well the fuselage has been rebuilt, filled, sanded, and is mostly painted now! There are pictures to follow, as soon as I get round to uploading them that is. Wings next, they aren't going to be as simple to sort... :( |

Ok so I've got pics of Lazarus the Invader now, being brought back from the dead: The innards tarted up a bit. ![]() Fuselage back in one piece: ![]() Gunner's position. I elected to paint over the side windows of the gunner's canopy, as they were just too gluey-fingered to be salvageable. So they've been broken and replaced with ally in service, I've seen photos where that's been done so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! ![]() Detail of the glazing, which salvaged ok :) ![]() The fuselage is now painted ![]() And has nose and tail markings, all hand painted with hairy stick ![]() She'll wear the markings of the USAF All Weather Flying Center circa 1947 when finished. Just got the wings and gear to resurrect now, wish me luck...

A little bit of progress, the wings are back on now. I've had to, er, deconstruct the nacelles as they're on the wrong sides so the undercarriage was the wrong way round! Hopefully with a bit of filling they'll be redeemable... |

More progress, the main bits are back together, and apart from the nacelles and a few bits of touching up the paint's done :)![]() I've managed to get the gear legs turned around and pointing the right way too, which is good. Nearly there, the Stirling can get back on the bench soon... |

Cheers, I'm not that displeased with it, given it's a restoration job... |
