Builder of aircraft, any scale from 1:1 to 1:144!
Well, it arrived on Saturday
Posted Image
I've wanted one of these since forever, and the opportunity arose last week with the disposal of the stash of a sadly deceased modeller. Included with it there was much in the way of goodies
Posted Image
As well as reams of reference photos, instruction sheets etc.
The build had been started, in as much as the fuselage had been painted black inside, much of the Eduard PE set had been fitted to the insides of the fuselage, the radio/nav bench and pilot's seat had been assembled, but that was about it.
Posted Image

Posted Image
After much dauntedness by the plethora of PE, and reading all the instructions included, I decided to try and carry on the original owner's good work. First I masked off the forward part of the fuselage interior and painted the rest of the fuselage in cockpit green
Posted Image
I then added some wear and tear to the interior of the cockpit, picked out the wiring, and fitted and painted the trim console and radio /nav bench
Posted Image
I then tackled the PE seatbelts for the W/op and Nav. The lap belts come in 5 (!) pieces, and are the most fiddly thing ever to assemble!
Posted Image
Worth it in the end though, W/op's seat done and just needing a spot of weathering
Posted Image
One thing I noticed missing from the PE set, and fairly obvious in the reference pics is the Nav's anglepoise lamp. So I scratched one!
Posted Image
before fitting it. I think it looks OK.
Posted Image
So I've made a start. The starboard side handrails have been fitted too, but I forgot to photograph them. I think I'm going to be sick of seeing PE when I finally finish this build!

I have to say the PE isn't my thing, but I have built the basic kit a couple of times and been very pleased with the results. Will be following with interest.

I keep hearing bad things about the engines. They are a good way off yet though I reckon; still about 9 tonnes of PE to fit to the fuselage before it gets buttoned up! I'd normally be shy of using PE, but it came with the kit, the chap who bought it originally had big ideas, so it seems only right to give it a go.
The seatbelts are a sod though!

I do kinda have that feeling Derek! His widow had asked the daughter who has been dealing with the sale if whoever bought the Lanc could supply photos of it once it's built, so it must have been a special project to him. The amount he spent on aftermarket gear for it would suggest so!

When I get around to doing the Arado 234 I bought off her, I will put pics up too. It's a shame the Henschel was incomplete, but can't be helped. I'm working on that one tho.....

Did you get the night Arado? Liked the look of that. Much missing from the Henschel?

yes, the Nightingale. Didn't realise it was till I got it. Lovely looking kit, ex-Hasegawa.

The Henschel was basically a pair of engines, undercarriage and tailplanes, some cockpit bits and a canopy and not much else. I contacted her and she was very good about it, refunded me £10. Looking at the pics she put up on FB, it does show it like that, but I hadn't looked at the photos beforehand.

I'm hoping to pick up a cheap Esci or similar HS129 to upgrade with the bits I have.

Much progress to report on this beast of a kit. As ever the mountain of PE in the kit means that rapid visual progress isn't occurring! I've scratch built the bracket for the Nav's seat- in the kit it is attached to the cockpit floor, but in reality it was attached to a pivoty swingy arm thingy.
Posted Image

Posted Image
And yes, it does actually work! Pointless, but hey ho.
The pilot's seat is now painted and has it's seatbelts. They were fun...
Posted Image
Doesn't look bad dry-fitted either
Posted Image
Next it was back to the PE, with the yoke, throttle quadrant and rudder pedals all either receiving embellishments or, in the case of the rudder pedals actually being made from PE!
Posted Image
I decided to fit the knobs to the radio gear too. As you can see, they are a bit on the small fiddly side...
Posted Image
But I have to admit they look pretty good once fitted. See the morse key too?
Posted Image
I added a dot of gloss acrylic varnish to each of the engineer's instruments to represent the glass instrument faces
Posted Image
Then after assembling the instrument panel, and after having lots of fun with the throttle, prop pitch and mixture levers, I did the same with the main panel instruments
Posted Image
After a suitable drying period I then fitted the panel, and the yoke now with its weathered handgrips, to the a/c
Posted Image

Posted Image
I had to move the yoke back a bit, as the kit mountings place it too far forward, virtually against the panel. All very well, apart from if the pilot has to chuck the yoke forward and dive...
I then did a test button up of the fuselage to make sure the panel etc. didn't interfere with the fit of the 2 fuselage halves
Posted Image
before adding the 2 vertical stanchions to the nav/w/op table
Posted Image
And the (stowed) f/eng's seat
Posted Image
The fuselage windows have to be clear on the Lanc I'm building, so I gave them all a coat of Maskol then fitted the window strips, and after they'd dried buttoned the fuselage up
Posted Image
After it'd dried I masked and filled the seam line
Posted Image
While it was drying I started on the mid-upper turret. Here, compare the quickboost .303 barrels (left) with the kit supplied tree trunks (right)
Posted Image
There was little to the mid-upper in the way of PE. Just the frame over the back of the guns, a couple of brackets and the sling-type seat. There is yet a seatbelt to fit though.
Posted Image
Finally the fuselage is sanded, and put aside as there is little more to do on it for now.
