Thank you all chaps!
Yesterday evening I managed to get the nose and tail turrets built up, again they are a bit of an etch-fest but I think it's going to be worth it

It's taking shape really well, but the fiddly PE would be too much for me to cope with I think!

Apologies for the lack of updates, but my laptop went on the blink.
Little progress on the Lanc, I've had a busy couple of weekends. The turrets are all built though, and have each been test fitted. The mid-upper turret has its fairing too.

The pilot's seat has been final fitted

And this weekend I went out and bought all new paint for the Lanc. The fuselage section beneath the canopy has been painted.

So once the D/F loop has been assembled the lid can go on.

It's still on the bench, just on a back burner for now while I get a few smaller, high priority builds through.

Nice work so far. This one of my dream projects. But that's all I can do at the moment is dream to build a 1/48 Lanc.

Well Mr Greenwood, seeing your Lancaster build progressing so well has spurred me into action, and I've dragged my 1/48 Lanc back onto the bench.
One of the reasons I stalled was because I'd dropped the nose turret, and broken one of the gun barrels. I finally got round to ordering a new set, and after prying off the glazing I fitted the replacement.
Posted Image
While I was at it, I painted up the main bits of the rear turret glazing. the window frames can wait until I'm ready to black the aircraft, as I have the masking set for them i may as well do all the paintwork in one go.
Posted Image
I then broke out the PE again, and fitted the framework in the nose and the bombsight
Posted Image
While at the nose end I looked to fit the shroud around the nose turret. I don't think the turret will go in with it fitted but I wanted to fit, fill and sand the shroud so I decided to drop the turret chassis in. With the shroud in place the glazing can be slid into place at a later date.
Posted Image
You may notice the guns are missing in the above shot? Yep, I dropped them again, and broke both barrels. Again. So 2 barrels are painted up, but staying firmly in the bag for now!
I then temporarily taped on the bomb aimer's glazing, just to protect the fragile PE in the nose
Posted Image
And finally fitted the PE to the D/F loop, fitted it to the aircraft, then gave the fuselage top another coat of green.

Epic update time!
A long weekend off work meant that a goodly number of trips to the workbench could be snuck in. I decided to get on with building the wings, so first up the nacelles were coaxed into place.
Posted Image
While they were curing I couldn't resist assembling the rear turret. And fitting it just to make sure, of course!
Posted Image
I dry fitted the wings and tail, and for the first time got an idea of the true size of the thing! seen here with one of my 1/72 Lancs
Posted Image
Next up was the undercarriage. I painted everything, then assembled it. On the left in this pic can be seen the fuel tank template
Posted Image
The tanks either side of the u/c bay can be seen in the Lanc, but are not supplied with the kit. So I made a template, which I copied 4 times. i then gave them several coats of terracotta paint (the closest thing I had to the original off red colour!) and assembled the tanks
Posted Image
Before assembling the gear, bay sides, and wheels.
Posted Image
You can see the effect here, with the gear dry fitted in the wing. And that I missed the edge of the tank with the red paint, doh! Soon sorted that though.
Posted Image
With both wings dry fitted and held together with pegs, elastic bands and the power of prayer I couldn't resist getting the beast up on its feet for the first time...
Posted Image
I dismantled the wings once more, to give the gear a mucky wash. Which really doesn't show in this photo at all!
Posted Image
And now, for the bit I'd been dreading. Masking and painting. When I bought the kit the Eduard mask kit came with it, which was a mix of godsend and pain in the @rse. The cockpit canopy alone took the best part of an hour to mask up!
Posted Image
I then gave the canopy fame a coat of black
Posted Image
I then brush painted the cockpit camo, as I didn't fancy the idea of the spray paint finding its way into that nicely detailed cockpit. the rest was masked up and visited the hi-tech spray booth, AKA a box...
Posted Image

Posted Image
After a second visit for some green, the fuselage came out very nicely
Posted Image
And the masking came off the cockpit as I couldn't stand the waiting any longer!
Posted Image

Posted Image
Back to the spray booths, yes I know, cardboard boxes really, for the black and the green bits on the wings
Posted Image
which also looked pretty damn good once de-masked. I have to say, the Humbrol rattle cans have impressed me greatly.
Posted Image
The fuselage came out nicely too.
Posted Image
I couldn't resist popping the turrets back in!
Posted Image
So it was time to drop the nose turret chassis back in
Posted Image
Before final fitting the wings and undercarriage
Posted Image
It was then out with the Eduard mask again for the turrets. The fuselage also got its transport joints painted in.
Posted Image

Posted Image
So this is where we're at now...
