Cheers guys! I just seem to have got to a point where it's falling together nicely. To the point where I've even made a tentative start on the decals! I may have to appeal to some kind soul with either a decent 1/48 decal stash or the ability to print decals for the VN-Z fuselage codes though. |

Cheers all. I was away this weekend in Chester, so there was not a lot of model building done (and the LMS in Chester doesn't appear to open Sundays when I intended to drop in, boooooo!) But when I got back I gave the Lanc's cockpit canopy a clean and a polish up. Reckon the open window has come out OK too! ![]() On to the engines next weekend I reckon... |

A bit more progress with the beast this weekend. But not as much progress as I'd have hoped, due to being an incompetent cretin! More on that later. But first, she now has brake lines![]() ![]() The canopy has had all its internal PE fitted, and is now fitted permanently ![]() A few more decals are on, as are the rudder balances and elevator and aileron trim tab mechanisms, and the towel rail aerial under the rear fuselage. The squadron letters are on their way too, courtesy of my friend Dave Woods (cheers mate!) ![]() And the bomb doors and u/c doors are sprayed and ready to fit. ![]() As you can see, the engine fronts are also painted and, like the rest of the aircraft, paint 'chipping' has commenced. The rads are in and painted too. The props, spinners and cowlings are painted, and here is where my absolute cretin-ery has crept in. Here is a nice picture of painted cowls, props and associated gubbins. ![]() Can you see the problem yet? Look at the cowls. No exhaust flame traps! Last time Dave visited me, knowing he had a couple of these in his stash and wasn't sure how complete they were, I gave him all the surplus stuff. You know, the late tail turret, paddle steamer props, flame trap-less cowls... only I gave him the wrong set of cowls. And to further cement my muppetry, I only realised after masking and painting these. Doh! Fortunately he's not used the cowls, and they are now winging their way back to me. Phew... All the aerials, pitots etc. are painted up too. But they won't be going on until after the decals and weathering as they look uber-fragile. Like the bl**dy resin gun barrels...

Cheers TC. It's getting there, slowly but surely. It's the most care and effort I've taken with a build (and I hope it shows!) and I very much doubt it's a kit I'll build again due to its sheer size. But I can't fault the kit itself, and it's a build I'm enjoying greatly. |

Cheers chaps! should have my engine cowls back a week on Saturday, in the meantime I intend to get the bomb doors, u/c doors and some more decals done this weekend. And maybe get a bit more weathering done. Looking at the picture I have of the original ED810, there's plenty of weathering to do. She got very grubby in her short career... |

I've been busy with the Lightning and other bits this weekend, but the Lanc hasn't been forgotten. It has had its engine cowls assembled and test fitted.![]() They're going to need a bit of fettling... |
