Builder of aircraft, any scale from 1:1 to 1:144!
This weekend the Lanc had its engines fitted

As I had been warned there are fit issues with the outer engines...

But nothing a bit of filler won't sort. Might get the cowls painted up and the fronts on next weekend...

Well it's been a while since this Lanc featured in these hallowed pages. Over Christmas the Lanc got knocked from its perch and suffered some damage. Thoroughly disgruntled, I chucked it back down the side of the modelling bench. Other projects have come and gone, and the Lanc slowly faded from memory...
Roll on to last weekend, and having a sort-out and tidy after the dual VC10 build, I stumbled across the wreckage of the Lanc once more. I took pity on it and decided it was about time it got the finish it deserved. First job after a dusting was to repair the undercarriage. Fortunately I had had the foresight to chuck all the components in the original box, so this was not much of a problem. I still need to fix my home made brake lines though. Next the starboard fin was refitted, And the engine fronts fitted. While they were drying I painted the top cowls

Later in the day it was sat on its own wheels once more, with the cowls fully painted up and looking a much happier machine.

I know this build has progressed in fits and starts, but I really have no excuse for not completing the build this close to the finishing line. Onward...

The size alone would be impressive, but the quality of the build looks really good.

Thanks for the kind words chaps. The beast is getting there!

I didn't get much done this weekend, as I had an event on at the museum. I did get the props on though, and I couldn't resist popping the turrets back in and taking the Lanc out onto the concrete for a few pics.

So, what's left to do?
The rest of the decals
Aerials/pitots
Bomb Bay doors
Weathering
Repair and refit turret guns
And that should be about it.

Not quite OF. Close, but not time to break out the cigar yet...!

Interesting coincidence that I decided a couple of weeks ago to drag this out and finish it. I had a message yesterday from my friend Clive. He is the nephew of the tail gunner on this aircraft and is in contact with a local historian in Ekeren in Belgium where the Lanc crashed. He messaged me to tell me that the locals are erecting a memorial to the crew of ED810 either late this year or early next year.

Nice to know folks still remember...

Looks great mate. I especially like how you have shown the transport / assembly joints, never seen that on any Lancaster model.
