Builder of aircraft, any scale from 1:1 to 1:144!

While the model hasn't progressed any, I thought the forum might be interested to hear that I am off to Belgium next month for the unveiling of a memorial to the crew of this Lancaster. |

I will do, and will bring pictures back to share. It is great that the Belgians are prepared to go to the lengths they are to commemorate what were just 7 average chaps of an average Bomber Command crew. They weren't an outstanding crew in any way, they were just a Main Force crew who did their job, and survived half a dozen or so missions before they got the chop. Yet the people of Ekeren have gone to the bother of commissioning a memorial to them, which is being erected at the crash site. In addition the UK ambassador will be present, the Belgian Air Force are sending some top brass, and providing an F-16 flypast. Us relatives of the crew are being treated like royalty, with a trip to the Stampe aircraft museum after the memorial, and a visit to the graves of the boys of ED810 the day after. I shall be taking Joe's medals to the grave, so he finally gets them. I Intended to take this model, but seeing as our plans have been changed and we are now not taking a car I have unsurprisingly had a rethink! Edited by Blue_2, May 18 2016, 10:11 AM.

Well after the events of last weekend in Belgium commemorating the crew of Lancaster ED810, I decided this weekend it was time to get my finger out and finish my 1/48 build of this Lancaster. It had after the last building spurt gone back into storage, and had fared less than well. It needed repairs to both main undercarriage, a prop, and the fins putting back on. As retrieved from storage... ![]() At least the cockpit interior was all still in there. Under all that dust on the canopy... ![]() A little work and a while back in the jigs drying, and the Lanc was once more capable of supporting her own weight. She had her fins back on too, and I managed to do a better job of getting them straight than I had previously! ![]() ![]() ![]() Sunday morning the aircraft was back on the bench, cleaned off snd ready for final decalling. All those lovely walkways, stencils etc...... ![]() Lines on ![]() Stencils on ![]() After all this the last bits (pitots, wingtip lights etc) were fitted, the aircraft weathered... and that was it done finally. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's been a long build, but a good one. I hope you all like it. ![]()

Cripes! I just looked back. I started this build in 2014! This must be the record for my longest drawn out build ever... Glad you all like it chaps. |
