So i revisited this earlier as its now had a fortnight for the oils to go off quite a bit, been sat in a display case out of the way. Must say i was VERY disappointed, it didnt look how i expected. Just didnt have the look i was expecting. Think i know the reasons tho. First time having a go at this oil spot filter malarcky and so i was a bit cautious when i did it. Everything i read listed a range of colours to use......think i used too many in too small amounts. Also i got too much thinners on the brush i used to drag the oils around. So ive had another go tonight......less colours (sienna/umber/blue)but more of them and got the brush almost like i was dry brushing Now back in the case for a week or so, we shall see what happens next time i visit it ![]()

slowly getting there ive used some MiG mud as a wash then brushed it off just to leave a 'dust' in the nooks and crannies.. the plan is not to aim for a muddied look just a dusty one now ive took some pics i can see areas where i need to do some more feathering to blend it in a bit more ![]() ive also done the stowage on the back. cant believe how easy this was. the tarp was made from silver foil from the top of a tub of margarine moulded over some small blocks of plastic to give it shape. the rope was some cotton yarn dyed in coffee and smudged with some black wash to tone it down ![]() ![]() |

seriously easy take some MiG pigment of the colour you want....put some in a small pot and add enough water to make it runny....you dont want it thick and lumpy but not really thin and watery either.....use a brush to put it here and there (use an old brush cos it can knacker them and put it where dust would gather in nooks and crannies)......let it dry, normally an hour or so but it must be REALLY dry..............use a small but very stiff brush to remove it.....that takes the bulk of it off leaving just a light dusting tips are always use a matt varnish and dont put too much on cos when you remove it it does spread about a bit. and it you really dont like the effect use something like a wet wipe to remove it...thats why you use a varnish to put on a protective layer im deffo no expert at this but its fun to do.....i have an old tank hull ...sherman funnilly .....enough that i used as a test mule to practice on |

calling this finished....for now :D still want to add some chips and stains here and there aim was to create a dirty/dusty used tank rather than a muddy one......i sometimes see peoples work on armour forums and think its way over done usual pic with calibrated unit of comparison ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
