I fancy having a go at this.
I've been considering my model display and storage facilities for some time. I use wall shelves to display my finished models in our lounge. (SWMBO wants them all on display- says I worked hard on them, and I ought to show them off!)

The problem is that my shelves are now full. Between 1/72 models up to a Vickers Wellington in size, and 1/48 models up to a B-25 Mitchell and a Canberra in size, I have run out of room. With 48 models in 1/72, and 15 in 1/48, not to mention the 1/32 Hawk and the 1/35 armour, the shelves are a bit cramped . . .
So I've decided to stop building in 1/48, 1/32 and 1/35 and from now on, to build in 1/72, and build modern military aircraft and "heavies" in 1/144.

I'm going to build a 1/144 model for this GB- because it'll be my first model in a new scale. SWMBO and Betty(stepdaughter) have treated me to several kits from Revell's 1/144 range, and when I've "fondled the plastic" I'm impressed. My youthful memories of 1/144 are of no interior whatsoever (just a black hole!), and landing gear consisting of a wheel on a stick! I now find these kits have side consoles in the 'pit and IP decals! PE and resin detail sets are available too!!!

My model for this GB will be Revell's AH-64 Longbow Apache helicopter in 1/144.

My reasons are- as stated above it's my first model in a new scale, SWMBO (bless 'er) bought me the kit at IWM Duxford, it's a very long time since I built a helicopter in any scale, and I've never built one in 1/144.
After I dig it out of the stash, assuming I can find the tiny little box,
I'll put up some photos . . .

This is what I'm building!

These sprues are each17x12cm (about 6.5x4.7 inches)
Posted Image
The clear sprue contains a canopy panel that can be posed open to show the interior!

Finally, plans and decals!
Posted Image
That decal sheet is 6.5x5cm(2.5x2 inches!) with 85 different items included! There are two schemes included, for US Army or Dutch Koninklijke Luchtmacht.

Looks like a fun build!

Edited to correct a mis-spelling

Actually, I've put the Valiant back in the stash.

I can't be arsed with it atm!

I'm just finishing an Airfix Vought Kingfisher (was the oldest kit in the stash!)

and this will look diddy next to that!

I decided it was time to start this, the others on the bench are progressing nicely, so here goes.

As usual, construction begins with the cockpit. I expected to find a 1-piece tub to paint black,
but there are 8 parts to this, and 4 colours involved! The joysticks (2 of 'em) are 4mm long!
The whole cockpit is only 18mm in length. You can probably tell I'm quite gobsmacked with
this kit, I didn't expect this level of detail!
My only previous 1/144 experience has been Airfix airliners . . .

These photos are about 3 times actual size! And even on the Macro setting my camera is struggling to focus . . .

And then the fuselage gets closed up, and she looks like this . . .

We're doing real-time updates here, folks!

Getting near the end of this now!

Just needs ordnance and rotors, and she's done.

The decals went on easier than I expected. They were easy to handle with a small brush, the only real problem I had was that when I put a drop of MicroSet on the surface, decals I'd already applied
would float off on the solution! I couldn't get drops small enough!

This should be finished sometime later today.

More pix in the gallery!

This has taught me a lot about 1/144 modelling- basically, that I need to get a bunch of much smaller paintbrushes, and I need to thin my paint properly!! Tiny decals aren't the problem I expected, they just need handling with care and a small brush!

There will definitely be more 1/144 modelling to come from me! Now, Eurofighter Typhoon or F-117 Stealth next? . . . (That's a rhetorical question, by the way!)
