1/72 Foland Gnat; Prize from the Falklands GB!

Morning everyone!
I received this kit as the prize for winning the Falklands GB, hopefully that's a good enough reason to build it for this GB! Also I want to try out Alclad paints on a full airframe (a small one in this case!!).

I probably shouldn't start another kit, I've got a lot on the bench, but I've got the week off work next week to dog sit so I'm hoping to get most of this one done by then.

I'm glad to see the kit arrived without being bent in the post! We can't have too many Gnats, so I'm looking forward to seeing this done and the effect of the Alclads.

Regards,

Nigel

No worries Mark, I just hadn't really read the rules so wasn't sure what the 'reason' had to be!

Nigel, it arrived safely, and well packed thanks again!!
The kit is really nice and falls together, had an issue with front end closing up, but that was my own making and easily corrected. The central under fuselage part isn't the best fit but a little Plasticweld and Mr Disolved putty seems to sorted it! With a NMF I'm being really careful with the surface finish. First coat of primer shows a few spots to work on!

Ok so got the primer on, polished the Alclad black primer and coated with Aluminium

Next up masking, then white primer, coat of orange then the dayglow!! I thought this would be a straight forward build...

I've never tried a metal finish myself, but it looks well worth the effort.

Thanks Mark, fortunately I never got as far as masking, due to finding a few spots that needed another coat of Alclad! Put aside for a while to fully cure now!

Ran out of time on my week off, so progress will slow now! Might still get a chance to mask and spray primer tomorrow

Ok so found time last night to mask, spray white undercoat and the a coat of Tamiya Orange. I'd heard this is a good base for the Dayglow. Just need to grab a tin of Humbrol 209 next time I'm near a stockist

Dayglow paint took for ever to fully cure, but it doesn't smell any more so here's the latest pic
