If you've got one of these near you, it might be worth popping in. They're currently selling some of the Airfix starter kits for about a fiver. And they also have Airfix acrylic paints on a 3 for 2 offer.

I picked up the new Gnat Red Arrow kit for £4.99 today.

Are you sure it's the new mold?

They had a ton of new mould Zeros at the Works in Barnsley earlier this year.
It works out the same price as the series one kit but I suppose it could be worth it.

I am not a fan of "Gift Sets" after recently buying the 112 Sqn Mustang IV set.
The decals are wrong, with no stencils and the aircraft depicted is a P-51K but you get a P-51D

So now if I want a 112 Sqn bird I need a conversion set and aftermarket decals.
Wish I hadn't bothered now.

Just got back from Barnsley
No Gnats

Skyhawk £7.99
Mustang IV £5.99 (Typical having paid full price  )
E type Jag £7.99
Northrop F-5 old kit £5.99

Also a nice looking book of Aeroplane Magazine cutaways for £5.99

Dave,
I assume that is also the new tool Skyhawk
Tempted to get one as it is a couple of quid cheaper than the normal kit and I have spare decals for an Argentine aircraft from the Falklands set
What are the stores like in this box please?

They're all £5.99 in my local, apart from the Gnat which was £4.99. They also have a the 1/72 Bf109E-3. Check the pricing with them.

The Skyhawk is the new tooling. I think it's the same as the regular boxing, with the Green Lizards scheme but without the Argie scheme. The included decals are possibly without some of the more extensive stenciling (which I hardly use anyway).

Thanks for that Dave
It does look like the regular boxing (got one last week priced £9.99)
If it is £5.99 at the Works then it is a bargain
As I say have Falklands markings from the big set and also have some from an Aztec set iirc
The Green Lizard looks well when made up. Saw one on another site.

The stencils are entirely absent from the Mustang IV kit

Ah forgot about the Bf109E-3 they had stacks of those. Might get one to use some Spanish Civil War decals I have.

Back into Barnsley tomorrow if I am able.

That's excellent value for the Skyhawk which is a fab kit. The decals are simplified, but there's only a few stencils on the full Monty sheet. You could justify buying a couple of these (I will if our Works has them), plus a sheet of Xtradecals and/or some of the Freightdog resin bits. I'd recommend the Freightdog tanks, which have a better shape than the kit parts.

They scanned the box and it was indeed £7.99 :(
It has the extra paint brush and 6 pots of paint. Which they said made it worth 2 quid more

Might still get one as it is a couple of quid cheaper than the standard kit but have got my Fujimi A-4C down from the loft and will need to sort out what decals I have first.
