These threads seem to be doing the rounds on the forums so I thought i'd share mine with you. It wasn't until I sat down to pick a selection that I realised how many pictures i've taken this year and despite the bad press that i've been giving my camera lately, it is capable of taking some pictures that i'm happy with.

This year for me has been more about introducing my daughter to the world of aviation rather than concentrating on my photography. I seem to have done a good job because she is now a complete plane geek, very much like her father. Most little girls like In the Night Garden, she loves the latest Flying Legends trailer! Despite the fact that I became a single parent to her full time in the summer, she’s that well behaved watching the aircraft that it allows me to carry on taking pictures.

My daughter was born in Dec 11 and within days was staring at her first aircraft. It helped that I had a Phantom FGR2 within a minutes walk of the house.

We took the short drive down to Hendon to the RAF Museum. I took her inside the Sunderland and she was amazed, a good sign of things to come. Another Phantom but in a much better condition!

Towards the end of January I took her to see her first ‘live’ aircraft at Lakenheath, where I learnt ‘baby loves afterburners’.

I was fortunate to have not being in work on the day that Phantom FGR2 XT914 was moved from RAF Brampton to its new home at Wattisham. Unfortunately I can’t show any shots of the dismantling and loading until this place closes, which won’t be for long, however outside the wire was fair game.

Our first airshow of the year was the Jubilee Show at Duxford. Annoyingly for me almost all of my shots were ruined by having the UV filter attached to my lens, which struggles to focus even without a filter attached! I still came away with a couple that were acceptable and some good lessons were learnt for the rest of the season.

A few weeks later RAF Brampton had its annual fun day. The RAF Falcons attended, dropping from a Cessna Caravan and BBMF sent their silver Spitfire, which provided a great display for the village, but all we got were undersides and nothing worth posting.

Our next trip was back to Duxford for the Spitfire, Merlins and Motors show. I’d not been to this event before and expected a fairly normal museum day with a few aircraft display and some cars on show. Boy was I in for a shock! The show was effectively a mini airshow with a fairly large crowd and a large number of cars were on show.

Unfortunately we couldn’t make it to the American Air Day and complete the Duxford set since we somehow both managed to get swine flu in august! Fortunately we were both well enough to have a busy weekend, first at the Duxford September Show on the Saturday…

15 is indeed a Staggerwing. The Rapide fire was caused during engine start up where hot stuff from the engine ignited the wing fabric. I saw the same thing happen to the Rapide on Jersey when I was there a few years ago, same engine, same part of wing. The guy with that extinguisher was quick to react but the extinguisher that he had was really small and ran out before the fire was completely extinguished. Therefore it flarred up again and nearly took the entire starboard lower wing before they got more extinguishers on it.

The aircraft was flying again when I was there a few weeks later. It was commical that they got that out and then wheeled up the other Rapide. Next! I'll pass thanks...

Some really nice shots on there. Like the Charlie Brown ones and the sunset Eagles too.

You have just inspired me to go look through the 40 pages of shots I posted this year on my Flickr and see what I can one up with.
