Casting Parts

In the lull between kits, yes Mark and finishing the Hawk, I've been playing around with some casting.

I bought one of the Revell BSG Viper Mk VII kits and with the lighting I'm doing on the SW kits I wondered what I could do with this. Cockpit and engines are obvious but I then thought about the weapons. There are three points and it's just crying out for fibre optics but the kit parts are a bit too delicate for drilling out, tried it and am now a part down!!

So I thought about casting new parts with the fibre guide cast in. I made a mould using some 2 part stuff I had in, bought it from the Range some time back. For the fibre guide all I did was drill a small hoe in each end of the kit part then inserted a brass rod before making the mould.

for the casting I have used a 2 part plastic that is mixed 1:1, put the guide in then filled the mould and clothes pegged the two halve together.

This was the result.

Needs a bit of a clean up but I think it looks good, the surface detail is clean and tidy and once it has hardened fully and painted the guide can be cut back and then fed into a LED and pulsed to mimic firing.

What do you think.

Cheers,

Warren
