Recently released in time for the 70th Anniversary of Operation Chastise. Is this new tool Avro Lancaster from home grown manufacturer Airfix. The proper designation of the Aircraft was Lancaster 464 (Provisioning). The box art is a dramatic rendering of a breached dam, with the Lanc flying off the box. ![]() Inside the box are 6 sprues in medium grey plastic, and one in clear for the various windows, lights and such. The first sprue contains one side of the fuselage, top of the wing halves, spar, tailplane, seperate elevator and one of the tailfins with a seperate rudder, florr/bomb bay roof and one of the main wheels. ![]() Here are close ups of some of the detail. ![]() ![]() ![]() The kit also features posable flaps. ![]() The second sprue is a mirror of the first containing the other fuselage side, spar, tailplane etc. The third sprue contains the engine nacelles, props, exhausts and such. ![]() The fourth sprue contains the interior of the wheel wells, cockpit, turrets and such. ![]() The fifth sprue contains some parts that are not applicable to this kit. Such as bomb bay doors, mid upper turret fairing and such. ![]() The sixth sprue contains all the parts needed for a Chastise aircraft. Which also includes a trolley for the Upkeep mine. ![]() ![]() The seventh and last sprue is for the clear parts. ![]() Next we come to the instruction booklet, which is to Airfix's current standard. We also get a full colour, two-sided drawing for the marking options. And these are for: Lancaster 464 (Provisioning) ED825/G as flown by Flt Lt. J.C. McCarthy RCAF DFC (although he was actually American). Lancaster 464 (Provisioning) ED927, as flown by Flt.Lt R.N.G.Barlow RAAF DFC. He and his crew failed to return from the operation. ![]() ![]() ![]() An excellent kit of the RAF's greatest four-engined Bomber. |

Yeah I'm after a reasonably priced 1/48 Tamiya Lanc :) But no funds at the moment. |
