Just a quick heads up, particularly as I'm building one in the G&G GB.

Channel 4 are airing a programme tomorrow night about the dH Mosquito, it's on at 8.00pm, saw a trailer for it last night and looks quite good.

Cheers,

Warren

OK, I won't spoil it for anyone as I will keep away from content of the programme.

It's the title of the programme that has generated my post. I apologise if some might think I'm being a bit jobs worthy.

The Mosquito was the most versatile aircraft of WW2. But it wasn't the aircraft that won the war for Britain.

It has been argued that the P-51 is the aircraft that won the war in Europe. No it wasn't.

So yes, here is the definitive answer to which aircraft won the war and I think it is a blindingly obvious answer. None of them. Not one particular aircraft won the war for Britain or Europe.

That is my conclusion. The P-51 is a superb aircraft, but without victory over Britain's skies in 1940 th P-51 would have had to have an exceptionally long range fighter and may not have even entered the war!

The Spitfire then? Nope, it coped against the Bf 109, but it couldn't do the roll of fighting off escorts and shoot down enemy bombers. It's strengths were used to sort out enemy fighters whilst the Hurricane sorted out the bombers.

Most aircraft of WW2, either forming part of the defense of this country or offensive from this country, had a part in helping Britain and the Allies win WW2.

Finally, I know you guys don't need reminding, but it was the pilots from so many nations, the soldiers and sailors too, tat gave us victory.

The title of the programme should have been "The Wooden Wonder:The Allies most versatile aircraft of WW2"

For those who have not seen this yet, it is well worth a watch, if only for the footage of the recently restored Mossie in the air :D
