Well, I bought a sensor cleaning kit to try and sort out the dirt on my EOS 30D. I had to use my 500D at RIAT not that there is anything wrong with that as its a nice camera but the 30D counter balances my 500mm lens better. Anyway as my sensor was so dirty on the 30D I used the spare. I just had another go with the cleaning kit and I have now got it right. So my 30D is now teamed back up with the 150-500mm lens. I will give it a proper trial at mildenhall this coming weekend but until then it seems ok. Anyone else had any experience with cleaning there own sensors? The 500D has a sensor cleaner every time you turn it off but as the 30D is older it dosn't. Im planning on getting an upgrade next year for it but until then I can enjoy using the camera I wanted all along. |

My 450D self-cleans and, so far, I've not noticed anything on the sensor. I had to give the flip mirror a blast of air to clear some dust, but never tried a proper cleaning. My old 300D body didn't have self-clean and by the time I sold it, you could tell from the images it was getting a bit grimy. And I was the second owner of the camera, so it had a fair amount of mileage on it. The kit recommended to me was called the Arctic Butterfly - it's basically a fine brush that vibrates and rotates to electrostatically clear dust as you stroke it over the sensor. I've seen swab kits, but I'd be reluctant to use them unless neccessary. What kit did you use? |

I never even knew they had sensor cleaners until I bought the 500D as you get a message up when you turn it off. Im looking at a more professional model for a treat next year :D |

Sounds a lot like porn to me all this talk about vibrators flicking over sensors. Think of my old heart. |
