OK, the experimental bit. . . . . .
To try to get some scuffing effect on the Alclad I've brushed a little white down the fuselage sides and across the wing leading edges. When dried hard this will be treated with micromesh to even out the surface so that there is an overall gloss surface. The hope is that the white mottle will show through the Alclad as a tonal effect . . . no idea if it will work!

Right, the Alclad is on and it's a bit of a mixed result. I used 'Airframe Aluminium' which is very translucent, so you spray it on thinking that it's not covering the different colours at all . . . . . . then suddenly they are almost gone!

The attempt at scuffing didn't really work, most of the colour came off with the micromesh before silvering, what remained is visible through the Alclad but it didn't really produce the effect I wanted.

Every mark, blemish and scratch will show through the silver!! and the next job must be a protective coat of Klear to stop any more marks appearing.

It looks fine and those panels do show very well but subtle. A flat coat will work wonders, not dead flat though, it must have a sheen.

Right it's finished.

A coat of Klear was sprayed on to provide some protection to the metallic finish while the decals were applied. The Hasegawa decals are thin, they wrinkle well el Sol is applied, unfortunately some of the wrinkles wouldn't come back out!

Then for the second part of my cunning plan, several ore cotes of Klear were misted in building up a decently thick layer. I have discovered that (not surprisingly given it's a polish) Klear can be buffed to a nice deep shine as part of the process of adding panel line wash. I think maybe the solvent softens the surface as the buffing doesn't work so well without. Panel line wash was done with paynes grey oil. The polished surface is a good final protection layer for he Alclad.

Small parts such as wheels and tanks were quickly painted and added and there you have it. I have to say that while this may be one of the most successful NMF I have done it fell short of my initial hopes for this model, partly because of the wrinkled decals and partly because the weathering didn't work out . . . . will have to figure something different to try!.
