Progressing the diorama base slowly but surely.

This is the MiniArt Farmyard base with wall and gate in 1:35
http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MT36033

modified to sit on the long, narrow Trumpeter base here.

The wall damage has been suppressed and the 'cobbles' painted to represent a decorative garden path in eastern Poland.

Splotch a generous blob of burnt umber oil paint on the base and work it into all the nooks and crannies....

...and then with a plentiful supply of soft cloth, wipe away the excess....

The oil paint will take a few days to cure, but I've got plenty to be getting on with for now elsewhere.

That looks to be a real work of art.

Thanks for that. :D

As it happens I really like these MiniArt diorama settings. A lot of thought seems to go into not necessarily the parts themselves, but the sort of setting a modeller would wish to depict to best advantage.

Their earlier settings lean a bit too much towards ruins and damaged buildings but later models are depicting fairly undamaged structures and accessories. To be honest I'm glad I'm not dogmatically attached to 1:35 since I just wouldn't have the space (let alone time) to build the sort of collection I'd like.

Just one or two is fine.

Just some diorama parts ready to set into the grounds. They're representing garden statues, and stand half an inch or so larger than figures in 1:35.

From an 'Alphonse Mucha' figure set released by the Chinese\Japanese candy toy collections a few years back.

That Medusa sculpture looks to be a pig to decorate.

Diorama has a lot of detail to add yet but essentially the setting is complete. Good chance of completion at the weekend. Near on five months work since I started assembling the tractor tracks.

Nearly done. I've yet to add a single figure and a small number of additional details but essentially the diorama is now just about complete. The extra bits'n'bobs - just finishing touches really - won't necessarily change the appearance from this point. But this will be the final entry for the WiP. Finished article will be up in a couple of days.

Amazing work! That rust is most impressive. At first I thought you were building a diorama of this: http://englishrussia.com/2012/10/17/saving-the-tank-from-the-swamp/
