Totally Tonkas Bonkas !!
This is easily the biggest project Ive ever took on and one I thought I would never get chance to build as it was commanding prices that were , to pardon the pun , sky high !
There is potentially a lot of modelling pleasure time in the huge box and it is crammed full of plastic although there is apparently one sprue missing from the kit ...there should be two sprue No12's..... Revell are aware of this and will send the missing sprue out to anyone needing it :thumb:

I may need a bigger bench !

As I am awiating the missing sprue I started by building the Main fuel tank and boosters .....fit is quite good , Ill probably need to smooth the joins but nothing drastic .
Could not resist temporarily putting the boosters on :D

Boosters are fully built but the main tank needs the Shuttle support arms and other bits adding.
This all took just under an hour to get to this stage ....

I have received the missing sprue. And regarding the space, I know exactly what you are talking about. Still trying to convince my wife that the living room could need some more shelfs (a dozen should be working  ), but somehow she rejects this request. :bang:

Will it be an OOB Build, or are you planing to use the Super Detail Sets from LVM Studios?

just been looking at this photo of your bench

and it springs to mind, to not worry about where you will put it when its done, because where on earth are you going to build it!

Just looking at that bog roll makes me think that you get very nervous when building your models. I suppose the masking tape is there to seal yourself up after getting very nervous.

By eck...you are a cheeky lot !!
As for clearing space on the bench...easy....swipe right arm from left to right ....bench cleared !
Last nights update.....
Ive built the Crawler pad which is made up of 5 parts for the base sides and the top part where the boosters will sit.
There are also 8 tracks to add but I left these off as it would be easier to paint them separately .
There are also two support arms that I believe are not factually correct but are probably necessary to hold the weight of the Shuttle on the boosters.
Ive checked some photos and there are two similar looking structures on the pad.....See here
I found that aligning the pad sides to the right angle grids on the cutting mat , then applying liquid poly , helped alignment.

And once again I just couldnt resist a taste of things to come....I used Discovery from the 747 SCA build I did .

Today....
Prime time
I used Vallejo Grey primer to give the top colours something to grip on to.
A bit awkward painting something this shape and size...had to do it in segments.

Posted Image

Ill leave overnight to dry fully.

When I add the White to the side booster rockets Im hoping the Grey primer will show through as a sort of pre shade.
Just realised that Ive forgot to prime the caterpillar tracks.....doh !

Magnets available from Ebay .....cheap as chips mate .
You would not believe how strong they are for something that is only 3mm x 1mm .
I can hold the 747 upside down and the shuttle wont fall off ...honest !
Heres a photo I took while building it .

Posted Image

Here are the magnets I used....as you can see they are extremely expensive ...£2.95....for 100 !
Took about 5 days to arrive from China ....recommended mate .

Ebay listing

Look HERE for other sizes .

Ive just fitted two 8mm x 1mm to the base of the launch pad to prevent the boosters from toppling over.

REMEMBER.....these are strong ...they attach like limpets to each other but when using them be aware of the poles ...opposites attract , like poles repel , I had to try and remove them the first time I used them because I got the poles mixed up

HTH.
