REVELL 1/32 Bristol Beaufighter Mk IF![]() ![]() The Bristol Beaufighter was one of the most successful and effective night fighters of World War 2. With the outbreak of the War the German Luftwaffe undertook intensified night raids on Britain. The RAF needed therefore to find an effective system of defence. The Beaufighter Mk IF, based on the Bristol Beaufort bomber but with more powerful engines, became available from the summer of 1940. Its speed, size and heavy armament combined with a highly secretive new surveillance radar made the Beaufighter a very effective night fighter. The first victim (a Ju88) was shot down on 19 November 1940. The enormous fire-power came from six machine guns in the wings and four 20mm cannon under the nose. The Japanese nicknamed the Beaufighter The Whispering Death because of its relatively quiet attack profile. More than 5,800 Beaufighter's were produced, including 364 for the Royal Australian Air Force. The Kit This kit dates back to 1974 and at the time was a front runner in this scale, however its now showing its age, but this kits contains a vast amount of detail: - Structured surfaces - Detailed twin radial engines - Moveable Propeller - Detailed Cockpit with pilot figures - Navigation compartment with figure - Tail-wheel selectively down or retracted - Separate navigation lights - Under-carriage selectively down or retracted - Radar antennae - Removable engine cowling's ![]() The instructions.... The instructions are of Revell's usual style in booklet form and have Revell colour call outs only, and again some paints will need mixing. There are 11 pages containing 15 steps for the build. ![]() ![]() The decals These are of Revell usual high standard and are very crisp, and are in good register, included are decals for the vast array of instruments, however the sqn codes are depicted in a green colour that im not 100% sure is accurate especially for the night fighter version of this kit Markings are for: Bristol Beaufighter Mk.IF, No. 252 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Abu Sueir, Egypt, May 1941 Bristol Beaufighter Mk.IF, No. 406 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Coltishall, England, August 1941. ![]() The Plastic... Upon opening the box you see a vast amount of grey plastic (better colour than previous boxing’s) however there is an extensive amount of flash and the feel of the plastic is brittle. As with a kit of this age the panel lines are raised and some fairings exaggerated ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In Conclusion For a 1/32 Beaufighter this is the only game in town, over the years there have been many stunning models made out of this kit. The fit is generally good with the exception of the cowling panels, i am however concerned about the decals to the extent that i will replace them with aftermarket or even montex masks for spraying them. Not one for a beginner but a beast to have on display Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers. For details visit www.revell.de/en, @RevellGermany or facebook.com/Revell a new-look Revell website has now gone live at www.revell.de/en. It’s a worthwhile newspiece as it’s very different from before! ![]() |

I think the sqn codes should be grey, but as printed the decals are far too bright for sky if that is what they are supposed to be. Any comment yet from the rep on this issue? Si. |

Another one I had back in the day, but never got around to building. Any idea how much this incarnation is going for? Looking at it now, it's amazing how much we used to let slip because we didn't know any better and/or couldn't get any better.... |
