Revell 1/144 U.S. Navy Landing Ship, Medium![]() ![]() Landing Ships of the LSM-Class (Landing Ship Medium) were used from the middle of 1944 by the U.S. Navy in the fight against Japan in the Pacific. Totalling more than 550 ships they were the main component of the amphibious forces for landing troops and vehicles on enemy beaches. The loading capacity of a LSM roughly corresponded to a mechanized platoon. The steel hull had nine watertight bulkheads. With an anchor located at the stern, the ships could withdraw from the beach without assistance. Armour plating protected the superstructures against small arms fire. The early LSM were mostly equipped with six 20-mm Oerlikon guns for self defence. The open-top cargo area encompassed almost the entire length of the ship and was at maximum 7.9 m (26 ft) wide. By the end of the war, nine ships were lost mainly due to kamikaze attacks. After the end of World War 2 some ships went into service with allies armed forces. In 1958 NATO partners Germany received three LSM and two LSM(R). The Kit This is a complete new tool and may have a hidden surprise for the future, in that i mean this introduces a line of tanks and vehicles in 1/144 scale. There are also unused parts on the sprues that suggest other versions of this kit in the future. - New mould - Earlier stage of construction - Two-piece hull - Detailed propulsion system - Movable rudder - Detailed transport deck - Movable front hatches and ramp - 6 authentic 20mm Oerlikon cannons - 6 life-rafts - 3 M4 Sherman Main Battle Tanks - 3 M8 Greyhound Scout Cars - 3 CCKW 353 Trucks - Display stand ![]() The instructions.... The instructions are of Revell's usual style in booklet form and have Revell colour call outs only, and again some paints will need mixing. There are 20 pages containing 68 steps for the build. ![]() ![]() The decals Its not the biggest decal sheet in the world but it is very crisp and clean ![]() Markings are for: - Landing Ship Medium USS LSM-14, Pacific, 1944 - Landing Ship Medium USS LSM-133, Pacific, 1944 - Landing Ship Medium USS LSM-201, Pacific, 1945 - Landing Ship Medium USS LSM-210, Pacific, 1945 The Plastic... Upon opening the box you see a vast amount of grey plastic, this is very crisp and free from flash, as you would expect form a new tool kit, however i do see some issues with this moulding, there are a large number of very fine parts which are attached to the sprues with relatively large sprue gates, making removal a pain without damaging them. However if you can master this there looks to be a wealth of detail for any modeller and im sure the aftermarket companies will have a field day with this detailing for this. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In Conclusion Is this a first step in a new direction for Revell? 1/144 scale armour and ships, i do hope so. The detail of this kit is outstanding and even the detail on the Sherman tanks is far better than some 1/72 offerings. As previously mentioned i do have concerns about the delicate parts but nothing care and patience could not overcome. This will build into a really nice display model Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers. For details visit www.revell.de/en, @RevellGermany or facebook.com/Revell a new-look Revell website has now gone live at www.revell.de/en. It’s a worthwhile newspiece as it’s very different from before! ![]() |

This looks awesome. The level of detail as you say is stunning. Another one on my Christmas list I think.

Nice review Mark although I would replace that rigging thread with easy-line. |
