Revell 1/35 M48 A2GA2![]() ![]() The US M48 Main Battle Tank with a 90 mm gun, initially in the A1 version then later in larger numbers as the A2 - formed part of the initial battle equipment of the German Armed Forces. It formed the backbone of German armoured units - and therefore that of the Army for many years. The M48A2GA2 is a combat performance-enhanced version of the M48A2, that at first filled the void until the introduction of the Leopard 2 and subsequently remained in service within units of the Territorial Army for many years. During modifications the gun-mantle was also renewed and the Commanders gun turret with its .50 calibre MG was replaced with one similar to the Leopard 1 with a cupola on the hatch. The first M48A2GA2 were delivered in 1978. Upon its withdrawal from service in the wake of German reunification in 1990/91, Leopard 1's which had been built after the M48's had already been de-commissioned. The Kit This is a complete new tool model and the quality of the moulding is excellent, the detail on the parts and the replication of the ‘cast iron’ is really outstanding, having recently built a Tamiya Patton, the quality of this far surpasses the slightly older Tamiya kit - New Mould - Authentic reproduction of cast part surfaces - Finley detailed gratings - Easy mount Vinyl tracks - Smoke dischargers - Rotating turret - Detailed gun - Hatches mountable in the open position - Search and target designating searchlight ![]() The instructions.... The instructions are of Revell's usual style in booklet form and have Revell colour call outs only, and again some paints will need mixing. There are 16 pages containing 46 steps for the build. ![]() ![]() ![]() The decals Again not the biggest decal sheet in the world but it is very crisp and clean ![]() Markings are for: - Heimatschutzbrigade 52, PzBtl 523 (tmob), Lingen, 1990 - Heimatschutzbrigade 62, PzBtl 623, Wietmarschen-Lohne, 1988 - 4. PzGrenDiv, PzAufklBtl 4, Roding, 1980 - Heimatschutzbrigade 54, PzBtl 543 (tmob), Hermeskeil, 1989 The Plastic... Well first impressions are, OMG its green!! But i guess this does make sense considering the subject matter, and it could of been worse (remember that 1/32 hawk!!) there is also a wire taped to the instructions for use as the aerials, which is a nice touch ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In Conclusion This is another cracking kit form Revell, the quality of the moulding really stands out on this one. Possibly only let down by the rubber tracks, this one will be gracing the bench soon Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers.
