I'm totally confused as one eyewitness on Anglia News said he saw 2 ejections, next thing I hear is that the single pilot was OK. Oh, and the telegraph was wrong as the 'D' is a 2 seater, so what was it a 'C', 'D' or even an 'E'.

I read the report from Lakenheath themselves

A #USAF F-15D Eagle 86-0182 went down at aprox. 3:28 pm yesterday. The only pilot on board was able to safely eject. There were no injuries on the ground.

Our Airmen train for a variety of potential emergencies and crises and factor safety into all of their decisions. We appreciate our neighbours' continuing interest and support as we look into the cause of the accident and sort through the details.

An F-15D from the 48th Fighter Wing at Royal Air Force Lakenheath crashed at approximately 3:28 p.m. today while conducting a combat training mission.

One person was on board the aircraft at the time and ejected safely. A board of qualified officers will investigate the accident.

Additional details will be provided as soon as they become available. For these updates check here and on our Twitter: @48FighterWing

No worries,

I get sick of speculation so like to wait to hear from the source

I read this last night but fell asleep at my PC after coming home after my shift with a blinding headache

Thanks Shaun that clarifies everything but why only one bod in a 2 seater, seems weird to me.

Ah I stand corrected, I'm also wondering if the eye witness that saw 2 ejections only saw the one but after the seat and pilot had separated as he didn't mention any 'chutes.

No correction Derek,
I thought a 2 seater would always have 2 people in it but that was changed when I saw them up close at the heath.

Ive found that some eye witnesses must be visually impaired as a few years ago before a mildenhall airshow something fell off a KC-135. I watched this item flutter to the floor and thought nothing of it. The MOD plod came round asking questions so I told them of this 'fluttering' item to which they said 'thats odd as people on the other campsite said it was the size of a door'.
The plod then held up what they had found and it was a maintenance manual left by a grease monkey on the undercart. So how the hell these other people saw something the size of a door falling I have no idea, Im wondering what they had been smoking.

Thats exactly the issue aircraft accident investigators have.

Everyone has their own perspective on what they have seen so these days while witness statements are still taken at incidents, none are taken as fact until physical evidence turns up to confirm it.
