A suggestion to replace Hawks with second-hand F-16s was made in a Mail Online article today... Mail Online link Perhaps the headline should read: "Red Arrows should replace their ageing British-made Hawk jets with eqally ageing US made second-hand F-16 jets" |

Best thing to replace a Hawk is a new Hawk. In what way is an F16's capability and costs going to be comparable to the Hawk in a training role? |

stupid idea.......whats the point of buying a dozen knackered f16's (with all the training, equipment, awkwardness of having a non standard type on the books and the time taken to work up on a new aircraft) when they could change to T2 hawks and have a life extension plan in place?,.............sheesh, the Snowbirds are flying 50 year old Tutors so im sure they can wring a few more years out of the hawks lol if i was going to replace them id do it with Tucanos until something new comes online comparable with Hawks Edited by beowulf, Oct 12 2014, 03:32 PM.

Builder of aircraft, any scale from 1:1 to 1:144!

The only thing to replace the Hawk is indeed the Hawk! It wouldn't be great for the Reds' role as flag-wavers for the UK if they were swanning around in 'previously enjoyed' F-16's would it?! |
