Not part of the current GB (Oct 14), this is a model started during 2012 and finally finished!

WTD-61 at Manching, Germany, celebrated their 50th year of test flying back in 2007 and painted two jets to mark the occasion. Phantom 37+16 is shown here in a scheme designed to mirror the Tornado they also painted.

I had major problems with the Two Bobs decals. The national stripes on the wings, vertical tail and stabilators were one-piece decals and just didn't stay down or adhere to the paint. Lesson learned - don't be too lazy to mask and paint large areas properly, as I ended up doing! The problem I had with the tail was that the circular unit emblem was integral to the stripe decal. Shaun came to the rescue with the idea of lifting the whole decal off with sellotape, which I successfully did. All the minor decals went on with no issues.

The unit badge was fixed to the tail using lip salve, as the model probably won't have to travel anywhere, so I figured that this medium was unlikely to damage or react to the paint. It now joins its two brothers (Tornado and Canberra) to complete my "Orange Trio" of Manching jets - group photos will be posted elsewhere on the Aircraft section.
