if it exploded in mid air how did 1 pilot survive? space flight in general is horrifically under supported imo |

The newspaper articles with regard to the crash are pretty unhelpful, concentrating on past spats about engineering aspects of the project - the articles themselves don't even seem to understand that the concept is a pair of aircraft which separate in flight. |

Its always worrying when these things are contracted out to the lowest bidder to build - NASA included |

Are we getting two recent events mixed up? Virgin Galactic is a private venture and not contracted out by NASA. As far as I'm aware and have read, it's not been subject to the lowest bidder in any tendering process. The other very recent spacecraft disaster (last week) was the ISS re-supply vessel that exploded shortly after launch - this was contracted out in part by NASA. As for a pilot surviving, one report I have seen stated that the craft broke up in the air rather than suffering a pure explosion, and that the surviving pilot ejected from it. |

The Mail on Sunday article states that both pilots ejected in their pressurised escape pods as the explosion occurred but one parachute failed to open consequently killing the pilot. Article has diagrams also. Sad news and another kickback in Richard Branson's venture into space for the masses. |

Nope, I never said it was anything to do with NASA I said NASA included The parts still have to be built by someone and Im sure virgin don't have there own parts department These are pretty much always made by the lowest bidder. I know that the un manned rocket also blew up earlier this week |

I don't have as much knowledge as to how the Virgin Galactic project has been funded and sourced, so I'll take it on board. |
