The Tiger II, unofficially known as the King Tiger, developed in 1943, was produced by Henschel from 1944 onwards. The King Tiger combined the requirements for armoured protection and fire power in an exemplary manner. The front armour up to 150 mm thick could not be penetrated by any of the on-board weapons of its opponents. The side armour was up to 80 mm thick. Despite several massive allied bombardments of the Henschel works in Kassel, a total of 492 Tiger IIs - including the prototypes and 50 vehicles equipped with the Porsche turret - were delivered to the troops.

The Kit

This is a new tool kit of a classic WW2 tank. The quality of the moulding is clear, however the build progress is overly complicated. For example the tracks are so complex each piece has to be glued and dry before the next starts, this is a long process for the 20 parts of each side.

Details include

- Porsche Turret
- Fine structural details on surface
- Turret rotates and height of cannon is adjustable
- Injection moulded tracks with individual links and segments
- Turret hatches can be shown open

The instructions....

These are the normal Revell booklet style with 11 pages covering the 26 steps of the build, the Paints are in Revell callouts only and some require mixing. Some steps are over complicated and would benefit from being spread out over more steps.

The decals

These are very clean and crisp and in perfect register with minimal excess on each decal

Markings are for:

- 3./s.Pz.Abt. 503 Mailly le Camp, Frankreich, August 1944
- 3./s.Pz.Abt. 503 (s.Pz.Abt. Feldherrnhalle) Szarkerestes, Ungarn, Januar 1945

The Plastic...

The plastic is a brown colours but is finely moulded and crisp in detail, initial test fitting of the kit looks good (Jamie will be building this soon)

In Conclusion

This is a cracking little kit of the Tiger II but has its issues, these mainly are issues with the tracks, they are over complicated and the instructions aren’t clear, however when you get past these its smooth sailing

Recommended for the regular modeller, not a beginner

The powers that be wanted a flying Tiger but the tracks didn't make it fast enough to take off so they went for the next best thing.
