It still beats me how Bader climbed in and out of the Hurricane so well, although I saw him do it once! I was visiting the RAF Museum in 1980 and by total co-incidence, the staff had roped off part of the Battle of Britain Hall as they had a party there to celebrate his 70th birthday. I have a poor and distant shot of the great man climbing in/out of the Spitfire, although he was hopping in and out of most of the aircraft there. Not bad for any 70 year old, never mind one with artificial limbs.
