![]() The Land Rover was initially produced in 1948. It was extensively tested and shortly thereafter introduced as Series I into the British Army. Series I and Series II vehicles (built from 1958) were gradually superseded by the Series III Land Rover built between 1971 and 1983. The Land Rover was also purchased for use by other armies throughout the world and very quickly acquired a legendary reputation as a robust and reliable vehicle that in addition to a permanent rear wheel drive also possessed a selectable four-wheel drive transmission. In addition to the short 88 inch (2235 mm) wheelbase a long 109 inch (2769 mm) wheelbase model was also available. ![]() The Kit this is a re-pop of the 1976 Tamiya SAS Landrover, and is the second time Revell added bits and have re-pop it (Italeri have too) and as sure there is already a wealth of after market parts out there. however this version with the canvas top is perfect for those British army dioramas ![]() the Instructions These are a slight change from the Revell style, these are a flip top opening booklet, as normal paint call outs are in Revell paints and some would require mixing depending on which version you make. ![]() ![]() The Markings there are 4 sets of markings in the kit - British Royal Army, CHOSC, Operation Desert Sabre, Kuwait, 1991 - British Royal Army, BAOR, Germany - Koninklijke Landmacht, Verkenningsbataljon 104, Eesrte Legerkorps, Free Lion 88 - Royal Danish Army, 1986 the decals are crisp and clean ![]() The plastic surprisingly for its age, there is no flash and the details are crisp and clean, infact there is very little to say about them ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In Conclusion This is a nice little re-release of a classic British Vehicle, that has served as the work horse of many armed forces around the world (as still goes strong today). This is a straight forward build and one i highly recommend Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers. This is the old Italeri kit. I built this many years ago and it presented no problems and fitted together pretty well. Only comes with military spec bumpers, so if you want to do a civvy one, you have to cut off the "overriders" or have it as an ex-service one. The soft top isn't the most convincing either... Surely 109s had been replaced by Defenders (110s) by the time the Gulf war broke out? Edited by DevilFish, Mar 2 2015, 09:29 AM.
