![]() Originally developed to carry nuclear and conventional weapons at subsonic speeds and high altitudes, the Handley Page Victor was part of the RAF V bomber fleet until 1968. For a very long time it was assigned a tanker role with active service in 2 wars. In-flight refuelling played a prominent part in RAF Tornado operations in the Gulf Warin 1991. The Victor K Mk 2 tankers were vital for refuelling the Tornadoes and filled the desert air with their swan song. Designed as a strategic bomber to RAF specifications, the prototype first flew in 1952 and went into production for RAF Bomber Command in 1956. With larger and more powerful engines the B2 version was capable of carrying up to 15 tons of nuclear or conventional bombs. From 1965 it was converted to a refuelling tanker. The wing, fuselage and bomb bay tanks have a total capacity of 57,607 kg of fuel. Power plant: four Rolls Royce Conway 201 turbofans each with 9,344 kp thrust. Speed: 1,040 km/h at an altitude of 12,190 m. 6 man crew. ![]() Well many of us know this kit well, originally released on 1983 by Matchbox and remains to this day the only 1/72 scale Victor on the market (however there are rumours on another in the future) this kit has been re-issued 4 times now i believe and despite of its age the plastic is well moulded. However there are some issues with this kit known issues: the Intakes are poor, the shape is correct but the inner fins do not join, there are 3 real options to deal with this, 1 - resin replacements, 2 - intake covers, 3 - try to build the kits ones up to fit - Panel lines and trenches - where do i start, some parts have raised pannel lines then need re-scribing onad on the wings there are parralel lines thant need scribing betwwen then and then sanding off. there are also some trenched that need filling Ted Taylors guide is very helpful http://tedtaylor.hobbyvista.com/11-revell-victor/page-11.html Instructions These are of normal Revell style with Revell Paint call outs, some paints will require mixing. The instructions give you options for an inflight option ![]() ![]() The Decals these are crisp and clear and i believe are the same markings from the last boxing, however there are plenty of aftermarket sheets out there ![]() The Plastic ive already mentioned the kits flaws so not alot to say here ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In Conclusion This is a classic kit, that with a little work can produce a stunning model, and dont forget we have our very own Victor resource herein the form of Blue_2 Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers. Nothing has changed from the old Matchbox issue from many moons ago, but it is nice to see the old girl back out yet again. I built the original kit with all the updates and corrections that I found in an article (Alan Hall's newspaper type modelling magazine I believe) and displayed it at the IPMS Nationals at Stoneleigh. Back at home with the model still there I received a phone call from a gentleman who managed the Handley-Page museum and as a consequence of that call I had my Victor on display for around a year up there, a proud moment for me. |
