Revell 1/48 Bell AH-1W Super Cobra

When the Bell AH-1 was delivered in the mid-1960s, it was the first pure attack helicopter (AH = Attack Helicopter) in the world. The helicopter stood out with its very slender fuselage giving it only a very small frontal target area for enemy fire. This mode of construction however dictated that in the cockpit the pilots (rear seat) be stepped up in order for him to see over the gunner (front seat). To comply with requirements of the US Marine Corps the helicopter received two engines enabling it to cover long distances safely, additional armament in the nose and wing pylons capable of carrying various weapons systems. The end result of further modifications culminated in the Bell AH-1W SuperCobra, that completed its maiden flight in 1983. In relation to its size the Cobra delivers a lot of fire-power. The aircraft has reinforced doors and belly panels to withstand small arms fire. The AH-1W is a battle-hardened and reliable weapon system and will therefore still be in use for many years to come by many countries around the world.

The Kit

EDIT - Due to the reviewer making a mistake, id like to appologise and rectify the issue, this is infact a re-pop of Itlaeri's AH-1z with added parts, how ever this still remians a nice model and can be built in to a lovley model,

this features the following

- Structured surfaces
- Multi-part hull
- Twin rotor-blades
- Cockpit with tandem seats and instrument panel
- Rotatable main and tail rotors
- Weapon racks with pylons
- Side windows on the cockpit can be mounted in the open or closed position
- Moveable nose cannon
- Hellfire missiles and flare dispensers
- Rocket pods
- Detailed undercarriage
- Sensors and antennae

The instructions....

These are the normal Revell booklet style with 14 pages covering the 39 steps of the build, the Paints are in Revell call outs only and some require mixing. The instructions are clear and well laid out with options to open the windows and for different payloads

The decals

In Conclusion

This is a very welcome release of a iconic Helicopter, the quality of the kit is outstanding for the size / complexity of the kit, this is not one for a beginner but one for anyone with a bit of experience this will build in to a excellent model. The only problem will being choosing the best scheme for her!

I just bought this kit based on your review, have to say I'm slightly disappointed to find mine covered in raised not recessed panel lines. Would be mighty surprised if this was a new tool.

Now I'm confused, I can't find a single engraved line on mine, they are all raised.

Yep, sprues look the same.

Anyone with half a clue about modelling could see that's not a new mould.
Always good to research a kit before buying it and then moaning its not what you thought.
