Revell 1/125 U-47 with Interior![]() ![]() On the night of October 14th, 1939 under the command of Günther Prien U-47 surfaced in the heavily guarded British Naval Base in Scapa Flow. The battleship H.M.S. Royal Oak which lay at anchor there was sunk by a salvo of several torpedo's. U-47 then succeeded to escape undetected back to home waters. Seventeen months after this spectacular action U-47 was sunk by the British destroyer HMS Wolverine. U-47, one of a total of 24 Type VII U-boats was built at the Krupp Germania dockyard in Kiel and entered service in December 1938. The Kit This is a re-release of the 1975 Revell Monograme kit, This kit has been release several times in 2 guises, one with an interior the second as U-99 without the interior. Now i cant coment on its accuracy as i don’t very little about subs, however this is a very poor model kit. Raised lines, twisted hull and upon dryfitting your going to need shares in a filler company. Having said all that once built will be a nice display piece. http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal8/7401-7500/gal7491-U-47-Hemenway/00.shtm It features: - Detailed interior with separate bulkheads - Torpedoes - Instrument panels - Two diesel engines - Sleeping quarters - Crew figures - Detailed Conning Tower - 8.8 cm deck gun ![]() The instructions.... These are the normal Revell booklet style with 12 pages covering the 35 steps of the build, the Paints are in Revell callouts only and for once none require mixing. The instructions are clear and well laid out ![]() ![]() The decals These are very clean and crisp and in perfect register with minimal excess on each decal, these are mainly for the instruments. There is also a paper sheet of flags. ![]() Markings are for: U47, KK Günther Prien, 1939-1941 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In Conclusion Do i recommend this kit in a word, NO. But..... having seen one built in the flesh and looking a various pictures on the net (see link above) i have to say it can be made in to an impressive model, but to do that you have to have a lot of patience and skill, one for the expert modeller only Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers.
