![]() ![]() Welcome to one of two `interactive` build reviews or Revell kits. Why interactive? Well it`s a bit of a long story, but bare with me. When I got home from this years Cockpit Fest, my children eyed up the kits I brought home and ear marked `their` models that daddy was going too build for them. Now I don`t mind them usually doing this, after all I do enjoy watching them help me make a model in their own way. But on this occasion I did sit them down and say that while I was happy to give them the models once completed, I was going to build them as intended and they would have to wait. This also means that I have to multi task and build both kits at the same time as you can imagine the Top Gear style `fracas` if one of my kids got their model before the other. It kind of reminds me of that scene from the battle of Britain film when Ian McShane visits his family in London and hands the big kid the big Spitfire and the little kid the little Spitfire. How on earth did he get away with that? I different time I suppose. Anyway I digress. So over the next week or so I`m going to be building both and it gives you guys the chance to see my progress and ask any questions along the way. I know what your thinking.., it`s just a standard WIP isn`t it? In short the answer is yes. But our friends at Revell always like to see, quite rightly, one of their kits being built by an average modeller and hopefully highlighting the good and bad of their product. So with no further ado, lets make a start....., Now I`m not sure but this looks very much like an older kit. (I`m pretty sure someone out there can confirm this) The sprues are laden with flash and the detail is a mix of recessed and raised detail. ![]() On the plus side the seat looks the part and has some nice detail. This seat comes in 3 parts. ![]() Next post is all about the `tub`. Edited by tc2324, Jun 15 2015, 08:25 AM.

Definitely not a Revell original. I wonder why they haven't retooled this to the standard of the Super Bugs they do. |

Now the F-18 cockpit isn`t that bad and you are supplied with a pilot. Sadly, if you want your canopy in the closed position, this involves some leg amputation and a lot of use of the file on his/her bum area. It does raise the question of why supply a pilot if it does not fit? I suppose there are two ways to look at it. Either you can get the hump about the extra inconvenience of it all. Or you can enjoy the extra bit of work to get it right. I opted for the second option. (lets not focus too much on option 3 which is to leave the pilot completely out of the build... )![]() Again still WIP with some work still needed on the displays and pilot figure. |

Same with the F-18, all buttoned up and starting to look like a Hornet.![]() being an older kit/mould, there seem to be gaps a plenty and join seams that will require attention. The nose section in particular looks bad and before you ask, the pins are in their lug holes. ![]() ![]() |

A nice start. Some of those gaps remind me why I only build new tools now. |

How the F-18 looked shortly before I left for work this morning....,![]() It`s getting there and looks quite good. It`s certainly an F-18. Just got those gaps to sort out. Another thing I noticed which is a bit annoying but not lethal, is the fact that some of the u/c doors are moulded in the open position. ![]() Now this is well and good for the wheels down option, but obvious surgery is needed if you want an in flight pose. Now I`m going to build both of these in the wheels down for the final presentation shots, but once these are done, I`m handing these to the kids as `in flight` models. |

So 48 hours later and the model has been spray painted with the canopy attached.![]() Gloss coat and decals next but it`s now proving a little difficult to stop `little hands` from `flying` it across the dining room....
