Anyone out there building one of the bigger kits, and getting fed up of the brushwork and seemingly never ending masking up? Spare a thought for those of us on the Victor team then! We are currently repainting the under surfaces of XL231. The underside of the starboard tailplane and elevator alone took me a day to sand, prep, mask and paint. Painting is done handraulically, using a small roller.

Bear in mind the entire span of the tailplane is about the same as the wingspan of a Hawker Hunter...

And the fuselage side demarcation line doesn't half take some tape to mask off!

Well worth it in the end though

It's just an opportunity to shamelessly publicise our jet really! And I've missed the entire port side!

That'll be a job for a couple of week's time. Next weekend I am otherwise occupied; I have to pop down to Wellesbourne to pick up some part worn tyres from the Vulcan XM655 team that will fit our jet, and while I am that way on it'd be rude not to pop in to Coventry and visit my friends on the Shackleton WR963 team!

How many rolls of Tamiya was needed for that and was it the 6, 10 or 18 size?

You mean you use a roller for your model painting?

Bog standard foam rollers, available from Wilkinson's and other reasonably priced DIY shops. They have to be changed fairly regularly though, as the paint (basically a type of enamel paint) tends to eat the rollers!
