This explains why I have no intention of using Facebook or any other kind of HA, HA, 'Social Media'.

FACEBOOK

At the moment I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook whilst applying the same principles. So every day I go into the street and I explain to passers-by what I have eaten, how I am feeling, what I did yesterday, what I'm doing now, what I'm going to do next. I give them photographs of my friends, my family, my dog and cat, of me doing the gardening and at the swimming pool. I also listen to the conversations of people and tell them “I like” or share what others have said. And it’s working, I have already got three people who are following me, two policemen and a psychiatrist …..

Facebook is a strange thing. It's been a long hard and often painful struggle for me to figure out the best way to use it, is to never actually say anything about your life.

I got really fed up with it, the last three years I've only used it as a quick and easy way to send stuff down to my daughter. Now she's home I rarely bother.

I had a FB account in my name a few years ago. All of a sudden, my relatives found me and I was bombarded with stuff from Nieces and their children, writing absolute **** and requesting me to be their "friend". Now I'm not in a close family and I wouldn't want to be friends with the vast majority of them in real life never mind cyberspace, so I closed my account down.

After a year or so, I figured out that viewing some of the FB content was useful (aviation, Red Arrows, BBMF, e.t.c.) so I opened a new account. I did this by using a public PC at a Library, and submitting entirely false details to FB and to an e-mail account provider. The result is that I have a totally anonymous presence on the internet - even my wife doesn't know who I am - and as long as I don't post or reply to anything on FB, it works fine for me.

You crack me up! Soooo true! I ditched it a while back and only use it under duress for the business. I'm the same with mobile phones :bang:

I use FB and like everything in life, I ignore the irrelevant and use it to my advantage.

It also helps to filter your account settings so information is just incoming rather than outgoing.

Thats exactly what I do. I also don't accept friend requests unless I really know and like the person.
