On the basis that I don't want to accept the concept of a 'shelf of doom' exists in my modelling world I thought it was about time that this model was finished or binned . . . . .

I dug out the bits from under more current projects and got stuck in. This kit is a dog, too many panels and separate parts to ever fit together nicely.

Problems encountered so far include the undercarriage main legs that have to be fitted before the bays are glued to the inside of the fuselage. There is no way to guess the angle of the final bogy section that holds the wheels, get this wrong and it will be canted to the side stopping both wheels touching the ground at the same time, I had to leave these bits off until the model could be sat flat on the legs to establish the angle. The forward retraction jacks were both broken on the sprue so were replaced with brass tube. The instructions are very vague about where all the components join and seem to contain numerous numbering errors.

The engine bay doesn't seem to fit well at the front end, and the fuselage between the main wheels seems to be warped on my example leading to a slightly concave shape.

There is no provision for assembling the airbrakes closed, the interior detail stops them fitting flush. I had to cut them each into three sections using the 1st and 3rd, the middle missing portion will be built up with filler.

So before any filler is applied it looks like this, I would like to say that it's probably my fault for being ham fisted with the construction but I don't think that's true.

Could I ask one of you chaps with access to move this thread to the work in progress section and I'll keep you all updated, the bin is still an option!

Heard so many stories about this kit that I have avoided it.
Shame as I was really looking forward to it's release. :(

Keep at it I'm sure you will knock it into a great shape. :bang:

Can I ask, why are you closing the airbrakes as I notice you have the U/C legs on and usually the Jags always had the airbrakes open when on the ground?

It was the only practical way of hiding the Hugh gap that exists within the air brake bays as a result of the poorly fitting rear fuselage panels.

I will probably drop, the flaps to add a bit of interest.

The problems you are having really surprise me as the 'A' that I built from Kitty Hawk went together extremely well and I cannot recall any problems other than mainly small fit irritations and trying to fit the 'A' nose glazing which was too small so replaced either with clear card or Crystal Klear..

Mine is here, http://s15.zetaboards.com/Mainly_Military/topic/7753502/1/

We have a saying in our house that if things aren't good it must be a Friday build, Friday being POETS day (Piss Off Early Tomorrows Saturday)

Wow, thats one serious fit issue.
I was planning on getting their 1/48 F-9 Cougar. Think I'll check the online reviews first

Having said that, with the builds you've produced so far, You should have no problem turning this around. :cool

I thought I would have a go at fixing the short shot flaps. The plan is to use thin plasticard to create the correct outline shape and to act as a support for the filer (superglue and talc mx) once the flap has been built up with this mix the plasticard will be sanded off leaving, hopefully, a part of the correct dimensions!
