Chinook HC-2 & Land Rover with trailer; Matchbox and Airfix 1:72

I've recently finished my Matchbox Chinook in 1:72 scale. I've made a diorama base for it and thought I'd add an Airfix Land Rover in 1:76 scale to add a bit of interest. I pretty pleased with how it's turned out and as it's a sunny day I though I'd take some pictures of it.

The Land Rover could do with a touch of weathering and in time I'm thinking of adding some figures to the scene. The figures I had in mind are from Caesar Miniatures - Modern British Army. I've seen them advertised for around a tenner.

Anyway, hope you like the pictures and don't scrutinise them too closely.

The base works very well and a few figures would make a huge difference.

Magical build and diorama. I agree with you about some weathering, keep it subtle though and of course it is just crying out for some figures to bring it to life.

Very nice work. The textures on the ground and the sparse vegetation are a great. I really like the sag in the rotors.

Excellent, as pointed out above a little weathering and some figures would add even more interest to it, great stuff.

Thanks for the comments and glad they're positive ones. When I weather the LR I will just do it lightly like the Chinook, you can just make out a hint of sand coloured weathering on top of the fuel tanks. The ramp and floor inside is also dirtied up.

blainecole, The sag on the rotors was a bit difficult to get right really. I used some reference photos to get it to look right.

Before assembling the blades to the head and painting my trick to curve the rotor blades on my choppers was to draw each blade firmly between finger and thumb applying some down pressure, this keeps the curve even. The 'experts' would have you warm them first in hot water but this never worked for me. The effect you are looking for is not a full curve but rather a gentle sag towards the tip and practice makes it easier each time and I do it even on pre-curved blades as they never seem to look right.

Cheers 🍻 for the tip Derek. My technique was something similar, with a lot of trial and error. For an old kit though the Chinook went together pretty well.

Loving the dio base and models.

A nice sunny day has also helped add to the finished shots.

I've found some figures in an old box on my garage. I'll paint them up and see how they look with the Chinook. Like people have said they should add a bit more life to the scene.
