For the V-bomber tribute show at NAM next year, I plan to build at least one of each, Vulcan, Victor, Valiant. All three will be in-flight and most likely anti-flash white. To start off another epic build, I dug out the venerable, if a little long in the tooth, Airfix Vulcan B2. ![]() Using a few references, mainly this..... ![]() A slow start. I think to bring the kit up to even close to decent, the first thing I need to do is rescribe it. So that's where I started.... ![]() Trying to keep them understated as it's a smaller scale than I'm used to, and I believe that the panel lines on the Vulcan are quite subtle anyway |

Following this with interest, as I have a Vulcan that I plan to restore. Those big wings look ideal for rescribing. |

The wings are fairly easy, but am aware that the fuselage has a few panel mistakes. Most notably the radome. I hope to correct what I can. |

I'm looking forward to these builds and I agree that this rescribing is necessary and will make all the difference to what isn't really a bad kit. I think if Airfix did retool this they would be onto another big winner. |

well ive got 2 vulcans and 2 victors in the stash, however the victor is more in need of rescribing than the vulcan if your doing white, ill do 1 camo and try and get a vulcan k2 conversion |

Yes I heard that about the Victor. I've not really looked at it yet. I was tempted to do the Valiant as a K or a PR as I have the conversion kit.....I don't know, I'll decide nearer the time. I really fancy doing it with a big bucket of sunshine in the bomb bay too.... |

While I struggle to find the bits I need to do this build, I have finished the rescribing....![]() ![]() And put as much detail into the cockpit as I felt necessary....

Due to problems with getting (or rather, not being able to get...) the bits I want to do this build as I planned, plans may change. In the mean time I went into the attic and dug out my Revell/Matchbox Victor and Airfix Valiant. I have a B2 conversion and anti-flash markings on the way for the Victor, and was pleasantly surprised to be reminded that the Valiant I bought off Del has resin intakes. So, only two sets of awful intakes to deal with..... |

Victor intakes are thin on the ground too, unless you buy them with an upgrade set, normally K2, which I don't want! |

I decided to make a start on the Victor last night. Oh joy! MORE RESCRIBING! However, looking at photos, they appear to be even smoother that Vulcans, so I decided, to make things easier, not to scribe every little detail, just the main ones....![]() ![]() I also threw together the cockpit. Again, minimal detail, as none of it will be seen, especially once the pilots are in.

If it helps I built mine with the help of an article in one of the modelling mags I used to subscribe to (long time ago and forgotten) which gave templates for all the mid-life added on strengthening panels etc. throughout the airframe. It was good enough to display in the Handley-Page museum for 6 months sometime in the Stoneleigh Nationals era. |

I may end up forking out the £30+ for the Flightpath intakes, having seen just how bad the kit ones are. You get a PE fret with it, which, knowing Dave Parkin, will container every last nut and bolt to make the Victor accurate. However, as I want mine to be a 60's AF white bomber, I'm not sure what needs to be done as far as add ons go... |
