Supplied by Mark and Revell , I have made a start on building the kit I reviewed last Dec 2015.

First thing was to paint the cockpit parts whilst still on the runners. The red plastic is a throwback to those initial first Hawk kits from Airfix and Matchbox. Boy its a pain as two paint coats need to be applied to stop the red seeping through. The cockpit consists of one tub, two ejector seats (3 parts each), two control sticks and two instrument panels. You can either paint the dials individually or use the supplied instrument decals. Four other parts top and tail the cockpit tub.

Whilst all this was going on the main wing was built ( 3 parts and fits well) and the cockpit walls painted and engine exhaust installed.

The seats are fairly detailed for 1/72 injection but I found they did not fit flush together too well. For open cockpit display I would probably find some resin replacements.

You will find not a lot of room for ballast once the tub is inserted. I used liquid gravity and blue tac in available spaces. For some reason the nose undercarriage bay ( attached to the tub) does not go the full length of the U/C opening.

Now lets join the fuselage together and add the wings.

Wings fit great but

A short fin fillet circa 1980 not the long fin fillet for a 2016 example.

Looks very good to me Thomas with some excellent detail work present.

PS, Don't show Mark as he will be jealous as I believe he has forgotten how to build Hawks. :whistle

A bit of deluxe perfect plastic putty did the trick and the glasswork is loosely tacked on and masked.

Two coats of Tamiya primer and it still has a pinkish hue. Something to watch out for if building a non Red Arrows example.

A short hiatus now whilst i wait for the paint to arrive. Time to fill in any gaps!

Once the paint arrived, its taken a fair few coats to stop the original red plastic from coming through.

I have left off some of the wing parts to fit the decals better.

The rest of the decals have been applied now. The tail decals are for the long finlet Hawk so the tail of it has to attach to its self as there is no plastic there. No problems what so ever with the decals. However one suggestion would be to place cut here marks for the decals going across the undercarriage bays for a better fit.

As i am building it with the canopy open, I removed the canopy to prise off the masking tape.

There is a built up BAe Hawk model on the front of the instructions which I used to help place some of the smaller decals and also help with the cockpit details.

Wether that Hawk is the 1/72 or sneekly made up 1/32 one I don't know but the front undercarriage leg and wheel are different from the kit. My nose wheel is a lot thinner and the u/c leg missing some lumps which are not in the instructions or on the runners.
The MB seats are either resin replacements or have had the original detail removed and etch added as none of the detail represents the kit parts ejector seats. There are a few other differences which become apparent once there's a fully built example in front of you.

Unique in this scale are the pipes to make the display smoke.
I need to trim one or two of them.

Now finished bar repainting the undercarriage door inards red straggling the smoke pod.

It builds up into a nicely finished model but its not without some issues.

Wrong fillet insert in the kit.
No idea what those holes are in the rear of the fuselage.
The nose undercarriage and wheel seem odd. The wheel undersized.
Red plastic
Moulded Dorsal beacon can be easily mistaken for a rogue bit of runner and sanded off which happened to the one below. :redface

I have bought another one so its not all bad

Thanks to Mark and Revell for passing on the kit for review.
