This will be my first GB on MMM and I'm anxious to begin. Eduard are one of my favorite companies. This kit includes PS, PE, resin, and two sets of decals for making one of four jets. I am still undecided as to which markings I will select. But I have narrowed it down to either the No. 111 Squadron 1962, or the No. 56 Squadron 1963, Firebirds Aerobatics team. This should prove to be a challenging build for me. One of my weak areas in modelling is creating a seamless join without losing surface detail. This kit will also afford the opportunity to create a natural metal finish on most of the fuselage. Time to get started!

I thought the build was to begin in April. Looking at the calendar, it now appears to be starting on 2nd June. Is that correct? |

I am always open to suggestions. Would you be so kind as to tell me why you prefer those markings? Cheers |

It's very simple really Blaine. 111 Squadron has always been one of my favourites and has been around since 1917. They flew Hunters at RAF Wattisham and while in the ATC I spent a week's summer camp there during the mid 1950s. I was also there when they formed the RAF's official Aerobatic team, the Black Arrows. Who can ever forget their 22 Hunters performing a mass barrel roll at Farnborough in 1958. |

Cheers for that Derek. Consider it done. Also, I will do some research to find some suitable photos. |

Time to get started. But first it's off to the hobby shop for the required paints. Eduard included a resin ejection seat and a good deal of PE to go with it. I see a lot of potential in detailing just this one part.

Were you around in 1917 Del?? Quick question, seeing as it's a Lightning GB (lots of experts). On the paint/decal guide, shown above, it shows both Firestreak and Red Top. As far as I was aware, F.1 Lightnings were incapable of carrying Red Top. Or am I incorrect? |

Gents: Thanks for sharing your discussion regarding weapons load. You made it much easier for me; I think. Well, three resin parts and 27 photo etch parts later and the ejection seat is finished. Some of the etched parts were quite small, but I managed to place them all without losing any. That in itself is a minor miracle. ![]() ![]()
