Being a former submariner I could not resist buying this kit. It has many drawbacks as it is a re-issue of the original kit from the late 50's, early 60's. With flash, seams, and bad fits aplenty, it should prove a challenge. After completion I will donate it to an English language school. I am hopeful it will become a good conversation piece. Now this IS different and very welcome so another build to follow, avidly. I like the idea of being able to see all the hard work via the hinged hull side. |

WoW! Does that take me back. I built that model & several other Renwal ship & vehicle kits while I was in middle school! I loved the Renwal line. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks everyone. Paul: I have been aboard SSBN (Benjamin Franklin and Ohio) but served aboard a Los Angeles class SSN. I only spent eight years on active duty. The rest of my time was spent serving in the Reserve. |

As a complete sidetrack I watched a programme about the new Virginia class SSBN last night on our TV, interesting. |

Derek; One thing is for sure. I am now much too old for that game. Now ready for what is perhaps the easiest part of the build, painting the hull. First, the anti-fouling for the lower portion. ![]() ![]() |

The exterior is, for the most part, complete. ![]() ![]() A mock up of the next module. The kit really shows its' age as there is flash aplenty and ejector pin marks on even the smallest of parts. This module consists of three levels; lower level berthing, the galley, and control room. Lots of detail painting, so it may take some time.

This kit definitely shows its' age. But that's fine with me as I'm building it for nostalgic reasons. Another module finished. Now to prep the interior hull. Then I can secure this module inboard.

A bit more progress. The conn, galley, and lower level berthing have been installed. Next is "Sherwood Forest". There is very noticeable warp on the center deck, so I will have to figure how to make it all level.
