Back in 1985 the BBMF were not as `diligent` as they are today and it was made up to look like the Mk.XIV prototype.

Coming along nicely. For many, a Spitfire could knock down a Phantom with just the sheer power of its awesomeness!

It`s taken me a few days but the primary rattle can paint job is complete.

Black tail and D-Day stripes to be added shortly.

Slowly getting there with most of the building, painting and drilling holes for the perspex rods done.

A brief idea of the finished effect, although the Spit`s positioning is awkward in the first shot but about right in the second.

I was curious about the title of your WIP. Thanks for sharing some history I certainly was unaware of. Will enjoy following this to completion.

thanks chaps.

So this weekend so far has been all about the decals and in particular the `J`.

The particular Phantom involved in the story and flown by Dick Northcote that day was ZE359/J. (If you wish to see this Phantom `shot down` by Paul Day from the BBMF, just pop yourself along to the American Air Museum at Duxford and you will find it there in it`s original USN VF-74 colour scheme).

So knowing the serial and code letter I went and found my trusty Xtradecal 74 Sqn set for the relevant markings........

..... and bugger!

No J or serial.

So desperate times need desperate measures and a little bit of decal `surgery`......

Posted Image

Did the same with the serial number and hey presto......,

..... the right aircraft at last.

I also started on the Spitfire as well which is coming along nicely.

More soon.

A quick up date on this although the Lightning build has taken up a majority of my time.

Just working out positioning on a test base block of wood.
