Information: The Lira-class Pocket Cruiser was devised as a cheap, maneuverable, home defense vessel. The Lira-class set the tone for the design of what would become the future "Gray Navy" doctrine, allowing Thysera to depart from designs of a bygone era. The design was made to be extremely cheap to produce, thus it was predominately confined to home defense and does not offer many of the luxuries of larger capital ships, nor the smaller, older Thyserian designs she was meant to supersede. Unlike the Nerpa, Thysera, (CLASSIFIED), and Victoria designs that resulted later, the Lira does not share the same design layout and principles. The Pocket Cruiser is a single streamlined body, lacking the flight pods of the larger vessels. The upper section of the vessel contains the main and secondary batteries, a conning tower with an observation deck, as well as crew quarters and the CIC. The engine room and sublight engines are housed in the stern, above the landing bay. Two additional sublight engines are housed in separate cowlings off the main engines. The lower section contains the main landing bay, fighter launch tubes, main communications tower, fuel tanks, and houses another conning tower with a forward observation area. There are also several CIWS guns around the second conning tower for defense of the ventral side of the ship. The class features very little in the way of crew comfort. Crews serve in dark, cramped conditions. Exposed piping is visible all over the ship and CIC, leaving limited standing room. Much of the crew is also forced to work in tight spaces. The ship would have a problem with moisture and humidity, but a system of dehumidifiers keeps the air tolerably dry. The Flight I and II vessels were not designed for jumps and thus, did not include a jump drive, though a partition for one exists. While the vessel could jump, it was highly advised against it, due to materials available would result in the vessel potentially splitting in half if used excessively. Flight III vessels rectified this issue and are now able to jump and serve alongside fleets. However, these vessels are small in number, as the Akora-class Frigate serves with the Fleets instead. The Krogan Empire acquired a license to build an example and built a unique model with the help of Svyok. The Flight IV Lira did the best they could to redesign the vessel but was found highly ill-suited for territorial Krogan. Rather than scrap the vessel, it was handed off to EGA where it serves as a weapon testbed vessel, testing new weapon systems for the Empire. Naming Conventions: Lira-class starships are classified by Hull Numbers while under construction. They are officially named by their first Captain so the gambit of names will vary. Flight I Lira-class Cruisers first received the ERC prefix upon being commissioned into the Royal Navy, these were later changed to the KIN prefix which all vessels of the class now bear.
