Description:

The Scimitar which entered service, while inspired by the Rapier’s design and success, was a successful deviation of the original. Project 412 of Yakaiev Design Bureau is a direct descendant of the Rapier’s frame, though streamlined and improved from the 20th century model. Unlike the Scimitar, the Glaive was geared towards a strike fighter mission, something the older frame was found to found suitable for.

The Glaive also had many internal parts in common with the Rapier, which made it an attractive purchase for external customers who were looking for a craft like the Rapier in a strike fighter package. Though being a strike fighter by design and designation, the Glaive was also more than capable of dogfighting and doubling as a superiority fighter.

The Glaive’s cockpit was an improvement over the Rapier’s, but not to the degree of the Scimitar. While this improvement of Noravi Yakaiev’s original design was successful in actions and export sales, the Scimitar became a more popular fighter within the Erineos Republic. Though the Glaive stayed in production longer than the Super Scimitar it served alongside, production was geared towards export sales, rather than internal sales.

The Glaive was decommissioned in 2154, while the Scimitars and Super Scimitars continued to serve. The CSS, stocked with many Scimitars, decommissioned the Glaive in 2161. The Glaives were stored at the South Pole Base until 2203 when the Erineos Republic became a monarchy under the Krogan Empire. The Glaive found a new lease on life in the Cadet Air Patrol program alongside the Rapier and quickly became a favorite among young pilots. The CSS also readopted the Glaive to supplement their Super Scimitars and Zeros in service.

In 2615, the Glaive remains in service with the Thyserian paramilitary CAP and many small Terminus governments, serving alongside the old Rapier, as well as in secondary fighter service with the CSS. Compared to the YA-500 and modern craft, it is woefully outpaced; but compared to most antiquated pieces of equipment in the Terminus, the Glaive is a fighter to be underestimated at one’s peril.
