The result, while not comparative to the later Ardat, did complete the goal of setting the people of Thysera on the path which resulted in the construction of the Revolution-class Stealth Cruiser. The Erineos Republic became the first user of passive stealth technology in the Traverse and Terminus. The Yakshi, made of a carbon fiber hull with twin engine pods and its own jump drive made for a superb recon fighter. While the engines were vulnerable to infrared missiles, the heat dissipated quickly once the engines were shut down, allowing the Yakshi to float without being detected. This made the fighter a silent stalker, being able to monitor an enemy fleet from a distance, small enough to avoid visual recognition, and then leave and report back to the fleet. ![]() The Yakshi in the AtV Factory on a display to prospective human buyers, c 2180 Being fitted with scanning equipment, and the use of engine pods rather than three rear engines and wings left the Yakshi wanting in terms of weaponry and maneuverability. The Yakshi packs two 20mm autocannons and has a single fuselage hardpoint for anything from a standard infrared missile, to anti-ship missile, to even a nuclear missile. The use of carbon fiber for plating also leaves it extremely vulnerable to enemy fire and shrapnel damage, though carbon fiber is easier to replace than to patch up metal. It’s highly advised for pilots to avoid conflict if at all possible, though there have been Yakshi pilots in history that have scored successful kills against ships and fighters. This includes a single Yakshi ace during the Krogan Civil War who attained five kills with the fighter. The 1993 currently serves as a training fighter in the Thyserian Royal Navy, allowing pilots to become familiar with using a stealth fighter before transferring to the 2104. The 1993 has been considered for export sales once the 2104 was in service. An evaluation model was purchased by the Systems Alliance in 2180 and the Blue Suns in 2183, though both refused to purchase any future models. 10 of the AtV-1993s were purchased by the Horizon colonists in 2189 and have since been phased out of service. ![]() Access ladder to the 1993’s cockpit Credits: Battlestar Galactica for the Colonial Blackbird design |
